Chile: usually around national holiday, because it’s mandatory. Also whenever our football national team plays.

I met a guy who said “in the UK it’s only old, white, and racist people who display the flag”. It’s the same in the United States, but old, white, and racist people are more common! Half joke aside, it’s common in the US, but the typical caveat that the US is a large and diverse place applies. It’s common in some parts and not in others. I suspect there’s a high correlation in flag flying and affiliation with a certain US political party.

    Germany: Only during soccer worldcup.

In general, the world cup 2006 (hosted by Germany) is remembered as the first occasion that had many regular Germans fly their flag since decades.

Italy: pretty uncommon, but you can spot a few - I’ve probably seen less than a dozen of them during the past ~5 years. On the other hand, I live in eastern Italy, which has been trying for the past 30 years to gain some autonomy from the rest of the country, and you can often spot here and there houses waving the “Gonfalone of San Marco” flag (which is Veneto’s regional flag, a heritage of the Republic of Venice)

I’m from the UK, specifically England. Here the UK flag is sometimes flown but very rarely. Most of the people who fly it are right-wing nationalists. The exception of course is flying the flags during sporting events.

The Czech Republic: Except for some official occasions and sports of course nearly never, or at least very rarely… And I think people are looking rather strangely when they see someone flying the flag. There is like a bit of suspicion of what to expect, I’d say.

Put it this way: in my country, they design clothes to look like the national flag is wrapped around their body. It’s all pretty silly, but that’s what they do in addition to flying the flag everywhere.
