Probably kde, it sounds wrong but kde plasma is just as light as XFCE nowadays.

Not wrong. Over the past couple of years KDE has really improved and is just as light as XFCE if not more. As good as XFCE is I always tend to go back to KDE because not only is it light but its very optimized and i tend to get better battery life on it compared to XFCE

I’d be really interested to figure out how many active devs are working on these vms, not that it necessarily makes one better than the other, but it seems like KDE has a lot more work put into it than a lot of others.

I recently decided to give KDE a try after running minimal setups with WMs like bspwm. I gotta say, it’s very pleasant. I’ve probably used XFCE the most because I always used low resource computers no one else wanted. I think it all depends on what you want to do or what is comfortable. They’re all very good, everyone does such a great job developing all this stuff. I’m very grateful there are people like that in this world! =]

Ya its delightful now. I remember even a few years back trying it, it was a beast, even slower than unity / gnome. Now its super fast, and prettier than any of them.

Have you tried out OpenBox? It’s a stacking/floating WM and is easy to configure.

I have OpenBox on my media computer for years. Works good and doesn’t get in the way.

Ahh shoot well there’s also AwesomeWM, which supports both tiling and floating. Same for Sway, that one’s built for Wayland, however.

I like Xfce, use it everywhere actually. Pretty customisable.

That’s a tough one. I like XFCE and KDE, though I tend to use XFCE more frequently. I also like the way Budgie looks, but I haven’t really gotten around to trying it out yet.

Never used it but fluxbox is an option too

Wasn’t fluxbox the default WM on Crunchbang? The way they set it up was fantastic. I tried to roll my own version on top of something else (maybe that’s when I was playing with Arch?) and I could never get it to work as nicely or smoothly as the #! default.

I am currently using XFCE, i always endup coming back to it, it just works and when you know hot to customize it it looks great with going hard on you CPU.

I usually keep a copy of the fedora xfce spin handy in case I blow up a new install of some random distro and need to revert to something known.

I like XFCe and KDE. If I’d to chose, KDE is the best.
