You don’t choose Linux. Linux choose you. That being said
It’s not that hard actually but you need a lot of free time and motivation to keep learning. When I was a student I was deep on Archlinux + DWM / AwesomeWM + lots of console applications now that I am a functional working men I just stick to a stable distro (Currently Debian Testing) I think the secret is have good hardware compatibility and if you want to try some weird configuration just use a VM first or just use a immutable distro.
I don’t have any. I don’t like it 😬
I use Java, PHP, C#, JS and a lot of SQL for work and C as hobbie
I’m a simple man, Debian Testing on my PC and Debian Stable on my server.

Is that the pick of destiny? I see why you are so good
A website written in Rust… comes to my mind Plume but currently is not actively maintained.
I really love Numix/NumixBlue and Moka Icons (Recommend install Faba), I remember that I had problems with the bluetooth icon in systray but nothing that creating a symbolic link to the correct icons does not solve :)
Used to play Cube 2: Sauerbraten and I was good on that thing hahaha
