Have you tried out OpenBox? It’s a stacking/floating WM and is easy to configure.
I have OpenBox on my media computer for years. Works good and doesn’t get in the way.

Ahh shoot well there’s also AwesomeWM, which supports both tiling and floating. Same for Sway, that one’s built for Wayland, however.
