Better than Invidious and instances and also the desktop client FreeTube (YewTube, CloudTube…), which all use the googlevideoAPI, is Piped. Because of this, restricted Videos in YT don’t work in invidious and instances, but do it in Piped, which even blocks the sponsor ads and intros, which can’t do any other front end.
Piped is NUTS
Why? For me works way better than invidious instances, iI can watch videos which are in the othrs don’t work.
I mean it is nuts how good it is

My bad. I saw freetube grabs from invidious sources, so I assumed newpipe did the same.
Its true that we should foremost support peertube, but if we use privacy shells, we still need to finance them.
Do you have recommendations of channels on Peertube? The only one I have found on the main page that I know is “The Hated One” (It’s unofficial and I don’t watch it, it just appears on Invidious recommendations). Don’t worry about the topics, as long as it is something cool to watch, I think it would be fine to check.
Wait is that true?

restricted Videos in YT don’t work in invidious and instances, ? wdym Also, Piped has no download btn
I tried to swap to piped, but the fact that it doesn’t save video progress was a deal breaker for me. I’m sticking with Freetube until / unless they implement that.
I need to test it again, because when I found out about Piped months ago on HN, most of the videos crashed. But again, it was months ago.
Not only Newpipe, but recently I have been relying too much on Invidious.
Sometime i experience really slow dl speed on newpipe.
I imagine it’s being rate limited because Google definitely doesn’t want you to be doing that.
How would they know that i’m using newpipe instead of a browser?
Youtube-dl doesn’t have that issue.
newpipe is just overhyped because it’s the only open source alternative to the native app
It actually isn’t the only alternative. For example, SkyTube also exists (and is IMO also decent).
But yeah, Google killed off third-party YouTube apps on Android shortly before they released YouTube Premium. And with the official app deliberately lacking features, a competitor doesn’t have to be extraordinarily good to be appreciated.
NewPipe isn’t the only option as others have mentioned, and it isn’t a bad app, quite the opposite, specially if you use the platform just to watch videos and not to comment :)
This is one of those rare cases where I’d say the hype is justified. When the official client is absolute dogshit, then of course better alternatives would be welcomed with open arms.
Isn’t invidious open source
All front ends and clients mencio ned in this thread are OpenSource
Yup!
What is even more funny, is that on the second image - the paper the kid is holding is blank😂😂
I’ve been rarely logging in to my YT with Google account, I always watch videos from Invidious. So I guess due to my inactivity, every time I post a comment on a video, I’ll have a 90% chance that YouTube will delete the comment. So I’d just shut myself up haven’t been commenting ever since, and watching from newpipe and Invidious is more than enough since I don’t need account features.
