Maybe not ready yet (can’t find it on Fdroid), but Berty also looks pretty good, should be down there with Briar:

“No internet connection required (uses the BLE technology and mDNS)”
berty looks interesting, like briar with better ux and ipfs
Interesting! But I imagine this can only work at close range without internet?
I was wondering the same, reading about BLE seems to be only in your proximity but I’m not entirely sure.
Also if they are free, Threema doesn’t have a free plan as far as I’m aware.
Also there’s manyverse/scuttlebutt as a possible addition to the list.
Great infographic though.
Threema is a paid app, but they have made all client and server code free and open source.

I think that’s only for the main instance though. A alternative server can be hosted anywhere since it’s federated.

That’s a fair point.
If they haven’t been audited by independent security professionals, I don’t have time for them.
And they use Discord to discuss.
From this picture, looks like anyone can host a Signal or Wire server.

Isn’t that a bit different though, not really a messenger app? Someone explained it on here a few days ago. Delta.chat is really a messenging extension to the IMAP/SMTP protocols.
I’m waiting for someone who really understands it to turn up and explain.

getsession.org IQ missing too decentralised open-source
Good design.
It’s sorely missing any evaluation on the security track record of the platforms. Tox and rocket chat are not to be trusted.
Do you mind elaborating why?
They have a poor track record for security, plus Tox came out from the 4chan crowd and was making very bold claims around security (hinting that it could resist state sponsored attacks) while not having published a threat model nor a security assessment.
