I always used translation applications on my phone, when I still used google services the oblivious choice was google translate, but after learning what google does, I traded one evil for the other and turned to the Microsoft app.
I tried several app’s open source but none were 100% effective, when I saw a post on this site, open source, the first thing I did was put an icon for the site on my phone, I gave up all applications.
It is very good this project and everyone should support, good initiatives like this are worth a lot in the days running away from BigTech.
running away from BigTech

This is actually a pretty good improvement compared to google translate. I made a couple of tries from english to portuguese and got results in european portuguese. Google always defaults to brazilian portuguese and it sticks out like a sore thumb while reading it in Europe, even from short simple sentences.
Very happy to learn about this!
One issue I found, it doesn’t accept single words
in frenchCat -> Cat
If I use multiple words it’s fine
the cat -> le chat

I’m using Deepl right now. Good to know that there is a true FLOSS translator, so I will use this instead of Deepl. Thanks :D
it’s pretty good, i have noticed some inconsistencies compared to google translate, but it’s usable.
