Do you think we should allow gifs as avatars? They can sometimes be really annoying / distracting to me, but I wanna hear yall’s thoughts.

I think it makes sense to make it an instance option, and I think blocking them on the flagship instance is reasonable–but my corner of Mastodon seems to like having them so I think there’s fediverse demand that isn’t just me. :) Either way, I think it’s way less important than being able to block gif autoplay as a whole as a user setting or even the standard behavior.
I think there should be a user option to automatically glitch all avatars :D

Viz. animated images that bypassed autoplay settings used on Twitter to try to provoke a seizure, and a guy was arrested for provoking Kurt Eichenwald to have a seizure with gifs on twitter before that
I’m against animated avatars personally, cause they are really annoying when you are trying to read something.
I find gifs distracting, especially when focusing on title/text
I’m not sure how the servers would handle having tons of avatar gifs, but I can imagine it would eventually cause some loading issues. Plus like everyone else said; they are pretty annoying.
