    Are window managers allowed? I’ve been using i3wm for a while now and have loved it to pieces, but can’t work around the game breaking bugs it has. Would anyone have any recommendations on another WM that could provide what i3wm does?

      bspwm is similar to i3. Its key feature is modularity: It doesn’t ship with a bar or a hotkey daemon. You need to use polybar or lemonbar etc. and sxhkd for these purposes respectively. I don’t know whether switching to bspwm will solve your problem though.

        1: super+w (for tabbed layout) stops working for unknown reasons, still works if you press another i3 hotkey right before it.
        2: super+l (for moving to the right) stops working when I change to my custom svorak keyboard layout where the L key has been moved. Like the first one this also works if you press any other i3 hotkey right before it.

        The root cause seems to be fcitx, but I’m not sure. Second one is too much to ignore so I have to change wm. i3 recognizes the keypresses but won’t do the action itself.

    I use Cinnamon because it’s shipped with Mint. Haven’t changed DE in years, I’m cool with it

    i3-gaps. It’s pretty, easy to use, lightweight, great for multitasking.

      I used to use gnome, I wouldn’t switch tho, it’s a bloated mess that feels slower than an electron app.

        I’ve actually found KDE more glitchy than when I ran Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10, both with GNOME. It’s mostly little annoyances like stuff crashing or Dolphin not detecting file creation or deletion.

    I’ve been a long time Gnome fan. I customize the heck out of it but I love how it handles everything I don’t want to think about. It’s a good balance for me between customization and simplicity.

    I use Sway but I prefer the dynamic tiling of dwm. If only there was a dwm for Wayland…

    I started with KDE years ago, then relatively recently have switched to Linux Mint/Cinnamon just because there was a total mess with KDE updates (it used to be stable before KDE 4). Now thinking a bit about Gnome, but need to test it somehow in advance.

    I’m currently using Sway (a Wayland-based clone of i3), but that’s mainly because my KDE installation is broken. I’m in the process of setting up a new machine, and I plan to use KDE there.
