I’ve found a lot saying switzerland, what about finland? Neither of those countries are in the 14 eyes.

Germany had most of the privacy laws before gdpr already, they just werent really enforcable for international companys. Also there was a ruling from the highest court in the 70s saying “you are your data”. Which basically said that you have a right to have a say in what happens with your (personal) data and you can not give this right away. This doesn’t seem to hold for data the government collects though, but thats the same in switzerland. Also both germany and switzerland happily collaborate with US-Intelligence :/

Germans certainly were the people who freaked out the most when Google started photographing their streets and houses for Google Streetview

And then nothing happened except some faces and license plates being blurred :\

No why? I saw them driving around in my town some months ago though.

I’ve tried it. Lots of houses are blurred, which is slightly annoying, but understandable for privacy concerns

Europe is not a country, but the GDPR is pretty good. It gets enforced in Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy and many other countries in Europe quite effectively with high fines.

They also all have very invasive intelligence agencies, as @pinknoise@lemmy.ml already mentioned.

good enough for the Durov brothers and they are pretty damned intelligent. But, are there tech companies located there - servers maybe? The Durovs do NOT have Telegram based there - which I found telling. I think Telegram is in Germany and in another country. And, would the server connection be fast enough? I am using a provider in Switzerland right now for Nextcloud and syncing is a problem (it could be from something else, though) and slowness because of distance may be the reason.

I have heard Signal or Session is better. but, Telegram does have groups a bit like a social media network - I think the other two I mentioned don’t.
