Hi all!

Wanted to share something I’ve been working on for a little bit. There are probably a ton of bugs and a bunch of features that are limited/not working, but any and all feedback is incredibly welcomed + if you find any issues please let me know.

I’m going to try to be publishing regular updates for features + bugfixes so please keep an open mind :)

Regards, Johnny

Edit: also I just published a new build that should be out in a day or two that optimizes the performance of the post details screen and adds support for markdown. If viewing posts is really slow please be patient.

Edit 2: I do plan to publish to Fdroid once things are a bit more mature.

Edit 3: Final edit I swear. I’m not associated with the main Lemmy devs and definitely don’t want to steal the spotlight from any of the incredible work they have done.

Awesome! Once it’s on fdroid I’ll download but the temptation is soooo strong to get the app! Great work and major kudos

I have some suggestions but I’ll wait till you open up the source code and have a proper issue tracker.

@johnny@lemmy.ml I would highly recommend against using trello as an issue tracker. Use any code-integrated one, gitea, github, etc, so that can close issues with commits. Otherwise you’re just committing random things with no connecting to bugs or features, and will never be able to show where you fixed what.

Commenting from your app right now (: I’m really enjoying it for a first release! Has a nice design that doesn’t make it feel outdated like some open source apps.

    Some immediate problems:

    • Bottom bar is not dark in dark mode

    • Notification bar is grayed out and does not match well with the dark theme

    • No indication of when posts were submitted

Regardless of these immediate problems, I enjoy it and will be using it plenty. I recommend everyone to try it out.

P.S. Could you link the source?

The notification tray at the top is gray and doesn’t go well with the color of the dark theme.

Ah! Funny because I didn’t even notice that at first but now that you point it out I can’t unsee 😬. Will fix this in the next release 🙂.

I really like the app. You have a good eye for clean, minimalistic design. It would be nice to have some way of switching between instances without logging out of one then into another.

Can I use it without login? Not gonna do that in an app from google play.

Just pushed a new version that supports viewing the site without needing a login + you can now point at any Lemmy instance. Thanks for the support everyone 😊❤️

the app is so beautiful, the colors the rounded edges, the clean icons. The whole thing is amazing and smooth. This is gorgeous!

My main issue is only being able to use lemmy.ml, I’d love to be able to browse it and chapo.chat but everything else is so amazing I don’t even care. For an early build this is so amazing feeling to use.

I think that’ll probably be possible once federation is enabled.

There was an issue on the prod chapo.chat site that was blocking the app from working but that got resolved last night so I pushed a new build to the play store with the chapo instances as options. Should be up in a day or two!

Do you have a Mac + iPhone by any chance? Once source is up you can build and install from source yourself. Not sure how likely I’m going to get passed Apple’s app store review, but I might try eventually.

yes, i do, what framework did you use?

Have one working (I actually primarily develop on an iPhone simulator because it has better perf than the Android emulator) but I’m not sure how likely it is to get by app store review. When the source is released you can always build it yourself if you also have a Mac.
