Some websites block lemmy.ml links, for example Facebook as you can see in the screenshot below.
I dont know if this is because of the .ml domain (which is free and might be used by spammers), or because they are scared of Lemmy. Anyway, this doesnt mean that it is impossible to share content from lemmy.ml on Facebook or other sites, thanks to federation there is a relatively easy workaround:
- Find another Lemmy instance, ideally one that is relevant to your audience
- Copy the lemmy.ml link, and paste it into the search field of your chosen instance
- You should get a search result for the post, comment, community or user, click on it
- Copy the link and share!
There are a few caveats though: In the case of a post, comments and votes will be missing. You can fetch comments in the same way through the search. The other instance will also not receive any new posts/comments/votes made in the community, unless a user from the remote instance is following the lemmy.ml community.
The easiest way to avoid these problems is for you to make an account on the other instance and follow the community from it. Then every post/comment/vote will be delivered to the other instance, and the community should look identical on both instances.
Is there a specific reason for you to use the .ml domain? Have you considered changing to something else (.social would be nice since Mastodon, Pleroma, Pixelfed, Peertube and BookWyrm official instances use it)?

Its just a free domain, like

I’m just pretty staunch about not paying for a domain name, they add no value whatsoever, and buying them feels like acquiescing to the digital enclosure of the commons.Sometimes, .tk and others extort you for money in the long run. If you don’t pay for the product, it may consume you instead. Had a .tk domain where they disabled DNS after inserting their own porn ads, which I blocked in JS.
Yikes, what a story.
oh, I even forgot to mention they emailed me after the fact and made an “offer” I can get my domain back for about 8€ a month.

I would like to use lemmy.social, but iirc it was either already taken or crazy expensive to buy.
Of the big social media, FB is the only one I’ve found so far that blocks lemmy. Reddit, twitter, discord all seem to allow lemmy links. Maybe there is a process on FB by which a domain could be delisted from spam. I never venture into that walled garden anyway tho.

I am pretty sure you can get it whitelisted, otherwise talking to some regulation agency that is in charge of anti-competitive practices should do it, or even just threatening to do it (that’s what i do when business started to act in a sleazy manner with me).
