I have not even thought about the war in weeks, and randomly catch myself remembering that it’s actually still ongoing.

They also just stopped talking about Covid at all in the USA. I don’t follow MSM anymore, I think they’ve just been talking about the midterms here and probably more demonizing of China.

That’s actually the low end of estimates based on excess deaths. We’ve likely lost more than 3 million people. About 1% of our total population. And that’s just deaths. Doesn’t include lasting effects that many survivors face.

the radio in the store my gf works in plays war updates every hour on the hour. Also every time I ask alexa for news from Russia it tells me about Ukraine.

it seems most discussion on it has died down a little on MSM, but they’re still talking about it and the liberals still haven’t fully shut up about it.

Don’t know if it’s true or not – I got adblock years ago and never looked back – but I’ve heard that Youtube is putting ads for Ukrainian “dating services” (i.e., mail-order brides) on videos about the conflict.

I guess this is America’s way of dealing with the problem of destitute war widows that they created?

Huh I saw a tweet about Russian men on a Ukrainian dating app a while back. Don’t know how this relates to ads but it did make me remember those tweets. I don’t see YouTube ads anymore so I’m in the same boat

Gotta give it to em, they’ve managed to keep this thing from getting completely memory holed in the west for much longer than I thought they would. Still somehow not doing a very good job even though nuclear holocaust is a very real possibility. Incredible. More important ofc is what our celebrity-kings like Ye and Elon are up to.

Libs have a very short attention span. If it lasts more than a few weeks they move onto the next thing and then just assume that the last thing they heard about it is still that way because they have no concept of time. This is why the media gets away with claiming the Chinese are still genociding the Uyghur even though it would have to be the longest, slowest genocide in history the libs just blindly believe it. Same thing with the war. They ran stories that Ukraine is somehow now winning and since this put their minds at ease the just believe it’s still the state of things so the can go onto the next big interesting story being shoved in their face l.

Maybe? I can’t say for sure because, personally, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and actively keep up to date on info, mostly through people I follow on Twitter and YouTube who post updates. In terms of TV news, can’t say much about Canada since our cable is connect to Portuguese channels, but the news in Portugal seems to cover the bare minimum and then they move on to other things.

It is going so bad for them that not even the western propaganda can spin it. Also they probably prepare to abandon Ukraine so they are preparing the grounds. Remember, the western media is not decentralised cloud as they would want you to believe, it’s an cartel with million mouths but one brain.

Weird that, according to this thread, for some reason the war is not talked about anymore. But it is in Belgium and The Netherlands. And big things happened this week, with nuke talks and the grain deal collapsing. What are we over here doing differently?

I don’t know about other places, but it’s still talked about in the US, too. The sensationalism has largely worn off, though, so it’s not being given the same urgency anymore.

Internal differences? USA not to mention NATO was not entirely a monolith even in their best times and now when entire thing is faltering there’s bound to be some stretched seams. Brits are especially easy to explain that they will try to push things because their country is crumbling right now and they grasp the “external threat” to divert people’s attention from how much their last few governments failed.

Exactly. This happens every time, like clockwork. People mad at Clinton for raping an intern? Hey, look at what the evil Serbs are doing! Snowden’s revelations causing massive anger and potential unrest? Well, Evil Dictator Assad is using chlorine gas on his own people! US in economic freefall? Here, look at Ukraine…

Long after the fact, people will freely admit they were played. But yet they keep falling for the same trick, time after time after time.

Is it going badly for them? I really don’t know what to make of this conflict. I know Western propaganda is bullshit, but it seems utterly baffling to me that Russia is having so many problems domestically concerning the war.

It’s a war, there’s bound to be some fuckups. Look at lis like that:

        1. Russia send way to little soldiers to this war.
        2. They aren’t fighting just Ukraine, they are fighting Ukraine plus military production and intelligence of entire fucking NATO.
        3. Time currently works for the Russia, so i wouldn’t be surprised if they were dragging this on purposefully. Europe bleeds with sanctions, seams are showing in the NATO and Russian economy is actually strenghtening with shedding the vestiges of yeltsinism and decoupling from the west.
        4. They are really delicate with this war. Only after Ukraine perpetrated multiple terrorist attacks Russia started to attack their infrastructure and it’s still nowhere comparable to the absolute destruction of USA shock & awe docrine.

It’s got a daily liveblog in my country, on the state broadcast. But it’s not always at the front of the news. Right now it’s inflation, the news about Dutch fans getting sponsored to go to Qatar and Brazil. But it’s there.

Capitalist journalism relies on sensationalism to keep people hooked so they’ll voluntarily keep coming back so the journalists can sell ads. The coverage hasn’t dropped in quantity as much as it’s not showing up on the front page as frequently anymore. As the public loses their sense of urgency, the journalists are moving other stories with a higher potential ROI to the forefront. The coverage of Ukraine has been moved to the back burner(very different from being abandoned altogether) so that awareness stays high. This allows the journalists to keep Ukraine stories periodically hitting the front page without burning their audience out so that readership stays high. This also helps with propaganda because many people will assume there are no meaningful updates between the stories they choose to promote more.

In the US, this is a cycle that repeats for almost everything that isn’t quickly resolved.

Something that hasn’t been mentioned is that things may have slowed down because it’s mud season in Ukraine- it’s just impossible to get anything moving across muddy fields, everything just gets bogged down. This doesn’t mean that things can’t move on other fronts (RU launching missiles at UA substations, UK & US supporting UA send aerial and naval drone bombs at Sevastopol), but the ground troops are definitely moving slower. Maybe the whole thing about Ukraine doing literal terrorism has put a damper on things.

western (n. american) media no longer reports about the war unless it’s something ‘horrible’ Russia did or Ukraine is ‘winning’… so not much going on because westerners don’t really care about things that aren’t sensational.

They only report when there’s some minor but attention-grabbing Ukrainian “victory”, and then the report on the “brutal and sadistic Russian revenge bombings on “””““civilian areas””“”“” and then they stop reporting so they don’t look bad
