The work we do is for fun and not for any sort of fame or monetary gain. When something stops being fun, you simply don’t want to do it any more. When you have grown a community around your project, even if you’re not being paid, there’s still a feeling of obligation to keep going. When you combine it all together, you feel forced to work on something you have no interest in and you might even feel like there’s no way out.

Everyone has to figure that out for themselves and I agree that fun is really important.
But I think, there’s also other reasons to be motivated.

For example, a great priviledge of the Invidious developer is being able to punch Google in the dickhole.

You also make life harder for state surveillance.

And to me, the thought that you can invest 10 hours to save humanity 10000 hours, that’s also always something that motivates me.

That’s not true, it was just transferred over to another person. The project continues, just not the invidio.us site.

It has been transferred to another person, yes - who has stated that they will not be able to maintain things long-term without the original developer.

I don’t think the title is misleading. There’s no lead developer, no new developer on the horizon, it’s likely to break as it routinely does with the next Youtube update, and this time it will be broken for good because the person who it got transferred to is not able to maintain it in that way.

So it’s likely to go away pretty soon (even ‘overnight’, as is said in the post) and when it does, it’s not coming back. Unless some new developer steps in, that is. And that hasn’t happened yet.
