My favourite read in the past 2-3 years was undoubtedly “The slow regard of silent things” a short story following one of the side characters of Patrick Rothfuss’ “The Kingkiller Chronicle”. However it’s not an easy to like read, in the author’s own words:

“You might not want to buy this book. […] even if you have read my other books, I think it’s only fair to warn you that this is a bit of a strange story. I don’t go for spoilers, but suffice to say that this one is … different.”

Favorite short story is probably the gift of the magi, it’s very short but really beautiful.

Longer than that, probably either treasure island, or the old man and the sea.

I don’t really have one, but the most recent impressions are the strongest, so the most recent book I read sort of becomes my favorite one (if it’s a good book of course).

Right now I’m reading The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, and I already really love it. Quite a bizarre book. It contains really weird and wild dark satire, and an interesting stance on religion. I haven’t completed it yet, but it’s already one of my all time favorites.

All in all, don’t subject yourself to poor descriptions of it by other people, and just go and read it yourself. It’s an incredible piece of writing, and is rightly called one of the best novels of the 20th century.

I recently read the Patrick Melrose novels which were awesome. Also Trainspotting. The Song of Ice and Fire is my all time favourite fantasy series.

George Orwell’s 1984. It provides a terrifying glimpse of a society with total or near total loss or personal privacy.

Cory Doctorow’s new book “Radicalized” with 4 separate novellas was great!
