This whole ordeal just seems to me like the USA making a powerplay to make sure their corporations control the social apps that the world uses. The threats being made will lower the price for MS or Apple to come along and scoop it up. It seems very similar to what China does by making foreign countries give up IP and control over the operations occurring in China.

The American way just uses a lot of cheating and lying to get control while the Chinese way uses a lot market control by the government.

In theory the users control the government, so maybe DT go can fly a kite.

Lmao. Free market my ass. They were right, once the Great Firewall gets torn down, the West will build their own firewall.

The west prefers like 4 giant US tech companies being able to spy on and store all the world’s communication, that’s their firewall.

Remember just a few years ago when microsoft had anti-trust lawsuits against it lol. Now the US gov is using it to absorb any company outside the US’s spying jurisdiction.

Microsoft seems to be always the done doing the US government dirty work. Remember how right after acquiring Skype they removed the P2P calls and everything had to pass through their (NSA backdoored) servers?

Google Play Store and Apple will block it, and 99% of users don’t know how to get apps anywhere else

nah, it’s privacy is objectively pretty bad regardless of the country in which it was developed, just read into writeups of people digging into the source of the app, pretty scary shit

See @Trickypr 's response to mine, it has the source I was referring to.

My understanding is comparing app to app, the TikTok app is much more aggressive in it’s data collection. This was based on a cursory read of a reddit post by a user who did a deep dive comparing them, however I cannot find the source again, so take it as you will. If I do happen to find the post, I’ll link it here.

According to this researcher, TikTok does not collect any more data than any other social app. Unlike the reddit post, this one contains some proof of what they collect and how to reproduce the results yourself.
