My answers:

Frankly, probably Super Mario as generic as that sounds, even though he technically doesn’t have a character.

Also, probably BOTW 2 and the Warhammer 40K CRPG by Owlcat Games. There’s probably more, but that’s all I’ll say for now.

    I’m playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles and trying to complete Persona 3 FES

    I’m planning on finishing Persona 4 Golden, too. Last time I played P3FES and P4G, I messed up my fusions by the end, and ended up very underpowered

      I need to go back and finish some of the Personas. I played 3 Portable and 4 Golden about 10 years ago but never got around to finishing 3 (and got the worst ending in 4 despite playing on the easiest difficulty - I’m really not very good at grindy-ass RPGs).

      I might just lock myself in for a few days and just power through one of them. It’s probably the only way I’ll ever beat these sorts of games.

      I limped through the final vanilla dungeons of 4 but found the golden extra bits really manageable weirdly.

      I didn’t get half the confidant or quests done which is my biggest sin because I was too busy grinding to best the G*mer boss. Fml I didn’t tackle that game half as well as I did 5.

    I’ve just download MH:Rise Sunbreak so will be going through that soon.

    (1) Favourite video game character is Tails from Sonic. Or at least how he’s characterised in Sonic Adventure.

    As a kid and even now I always struggled with lack of confidence, self doubt and just wanting to be accepted and make others proud.

    Tails’ character growth in Adventure 1 was very centered around learning to be proud of himself, what he can accomplish and the things that he can do others can’t which make him just as valid and special as anyone else. Essentially learning to be confident and proud of himself.

    Well at least that’s what I resonated with as a kid so he will always be my favourite.

    (2) BOTW2, Dragons Dogma 2, Silksong and maybe Sonic Frontiers.

          We morbed him real good!

          Jokes aside he is tough. We run Hammer, GS, and CB so we had a good setup to get in lots of stuns and tail cutting.

              Yeah I still do lots of play with randoms but one time during MH World some randoms adopted me and now I also have a few, less random, randoms to play with. Lol

              They added a bunch of companion quests which are solo only which is neat. Some of them have pretty good AI.

                Awwwh how cute! Yeah I don’t mind running with randos when I don’t have to worry about carting but for a lot of the end game stuff it’s usually less frustrating to go it alone than with randos.

                My favourite rando story is when a load of Japanese guys and they were playing silly buggars on mic shouting “gaijin” etc so when I clutched out Apex Nergigante after they carted they were silent lol and then I jumped on mic and was all “baka gaijin ja nai desu” and they just started screeching as the Misson complete screen came up. Absolutely priceless.

              I could dm you my friend code if that wouldn’t be weird? I pretty much only play Monster Hunter games and very occasionally some other random game in-between releases. Don’t have much time outside of that for anything else.

      Also, I gotta say: Sonic Frontiers doesn’t look that bad like many people say.

    Got the PS2 hooked up again recently so I’ve been dabbling in a few different games. A bit of MGS3 this morning (replaying it since Kojima mentioned Lupin the 3rd had inspired some elements of the game, mainly Eva being essentially Fujiko), and some Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (never actually played any of them despite being Australian myself).

    Favourite game characters? You’d have to be more specific. I’m terrible at picking favourites from a broad list.

    Most anticipated games? Currently, I’m waiting on my PlayDate, so I’m curious to see how that goes when it arrives. Maybe the new Earthworm Jim for the Amico too when/if that ever comes out. I don’t really follow that much of the modern gaming press so I can’t say I’m hyped for much.

      PS2? Why that? What made you decide to use that old thing? I’m curious: was it hard finding a working one? I take it that a lot of them don’t work that well now.

        I just felt like pulling it out of the cupboard. It’s nowhere near the oldest machine I’ve got sitting around and it still works just fine, I’m just using it with an internal hard drive instead of discs. The disc drives in those things are the main point of failure.

        I’m currently in a spot of bad internet so messing about the various games off a hard drive beats downloading hundreds of gigs of Game Pass games on my Xbox just to find something I want to play. The games, while low res, still look nice through a good set of video cables and a nice upscaler like a RetroTink 5x.

          Oh wow.

          Do you have to use an internal hard drive instead of disks or is this just so it works properly (like, in terms of performance)?

            I use a hard drive instead of discs because carrying around (not to mention buying) hundreds of PS2 games is a massive waste of time and space compared to just downloading a ton to a 2TB hard drive. The thrill of physical games isn’t worth the prices being charged for them on the second hard market.

            In terms of performance, I’m using a third party adaptor for SATA hard drives (the original Sony adaptors were IDE based) which only works properly when forced to run at disc speeds. Load times are about the same as disc but they still beat most games running on slow PS4/Xbox One hard drives.

    All I’ve been playing is Civ V and Crusader Kings 3. It’s mainly been an outlet for my frustration with everything going on. Getting to run a government and actually do productive stuff (in game) has helped my mental health a bit.

    I finally got around to playing AM2R and I’m absolutely loving it! When Dread came out I got completely obsessed with Metroidvania and played through almost all the Metroid and Castlevania games and other ones like Ori and the Axiom Verge games. I’m also still hopelessly addicted to Warframe sadly…

    Don’t really have any favourite characters to be honest, but I’m very much looking forward to the new God Of War, which was the main reason I got a Playstation 5 recently lol

      AM2R is such an amazing game. One could feel that it’s a labor of love and passion just by playing it. I cite it as an example of the kind of game that would be more prevalent under communism.

        I can’t really say, since I’ve only been playing for around 4 to 5 months. In my experience the story has been pretty good, although I’m still missing The New War and all the new Zariman stuff.

        Gameplay is good though :)

    Finnaly picked up Hades. Really cool.

    Also found a little game, cheap on steam : Vampire Survivor. I loved it even if I must admit it does not last that long.

    I’m staying at my best friend’s house for a month (long distance) so we’re playing the Halo series and Fortnite, the latter of which I’ve never played before. It’s obviously a meme as a kids game but holy shit it’s so interesting for some media analysis, like the most Zoomer/Alpha plastic neon capitalist realism schizophrenic “nothing means anything” clusterfuck that has ever existed. A peek into the the hellish terminally online meaningless mainstream the capitalists have set out for the youth. Ngl it’s pretty fun though I won’t see myself playing beyond me and my buddy sitting on the couch getting intoxicated and having a laugh.

    Favorite video game character(s)…hmm…honestly hard to say, I love a lot of character designs but don’t usually relate to them on an emotional level. I really like the 5 main characters in the game me and the same best friend are making (thank goodness, you know, cuz we wrote them, lol).

    Definitely don’t have an anticipated game, I barely know what’s happening or trust any franchises, on top of that I don’t have all the next gen stuff. I loved Dead Space so if I got a chance to play the remake that’d definitely be cool.

    Fallout 76. It’s a great time for me, I’ve always loved Fallout.

    Since I play a ton of RPGs, it’s hard for me to pick a favorite character since I end up creating most of the ones I play from scratch, but I do love the aesthetics of Doomguy.

    I don’t anticipate any games since I’m a “patient gamer”, ie, one of the weirdos who waits two years after the game is released to buy it on sale.
