NATO alleged that Russia messacred civilians in Bucha in cold blood. The images which served as evidence were pretty gut wrenching. You would expect that the media woild talk about it for more than two days but nope. You won’t hear about it anywhere.
Was there any investigation done into it?
Russia asked UN for investigation, the same day when Ukraine reported the alleged “massacre”. In response, UK, having presidency of the comission, denied it and then they suspended Russia. Very clear statement i would say.
Also it’s not entirely gone. Month after, Ukrainians claimed they got some drone footage confirming russian soldiers among the bodies, but idk what happened with it. Polish propaganda also regularily mention bucha as just enshrined dogma now.
It’s just so terrifying to think about. You can invent a massacre, call it a genocide, then when the people being blamed try to get it fully investigated you just suspend them.
Similar things happened in the 90s in the Yugoslav wars.
That’s what they’re trying to do to China with the Uyghur Genocide claims too
That’s pretty scary when you think it that way tbh.
The news cycle probably relies on people moving to new topics rapidly and not really understanding and looking critically into the narratives.
probably
The story has served its purpose - stoking the feeling of outrage in the lemmings and soothed them to the thought of dumping billions of dollars not into infrastructure or anything useful to them, but into weapons.
I wish I wouldn’t hear about it anywhere. It’s still pretty topical and it looks like it’s gonna become another thought-terminating cliche among westerners like with the holodomor or Uyghur “genocides”.
I’d be foolish to say that the Russians are completely innocent in all this, but I knew shit was fishy when the UK and whoever else actively refused to investigate after the side that allegedly committed an atrocity asked them too.
It probably became too untenable, but I can bet it will remain permanently imprinted on libs minds. I’ll be like “Shostakovich’s 8th string quartet is metal af” and some mega-lib will begin quaking in abject horror that I muttered something Russian sounding like quartet (clearly a loanword from квартет, obviously) and they’ll be like “buuuhh wuut about Buchaese genocide of Bucha enhnic minority singlehandly by Putler???” And all that I’ll be able to do is give them a vigorous death stare lest I become a genocide denier. 😥

There are people who genuinely think Russia is out to kill every last Ukrainian man, woman and child for no reason aside from hate. And then when you tell them that the timeline makes no sense or that the corpses in the videos match the description of dissidents killed by Azov they treat you the same as a Holocaust denier.
From the beginning I had my doubts about this, for which I was vilified by people around me. I’d also be the first to apologize and say I’m wrong if it all turns out to be true.
That being said, after watching countless of videos and reading countless of takes on this, I have formed an opinion. My take on this is that civilians were killed by both Russian and Ukrainian sides during the fighting for Bucha. That’s wrong, but it unfortunately happens in war. People get caught in the crossfire. I don’t think both side had the intention of doing so. After the Russian army left Bucha, the Ukrainian army came in and killed collaborators (as they have been confirmed of doing on multiple other places) and tried to frame Russia for it.
Is Russia innocent in this war? No. Is Ukraine innocent in this war? Absolutely not. But claiming Russia just massacres civilians left and right is also wrong and I wish a lot more people stay critical of what’s happening.

More people need to keep in mind that while Russia’s invasion has positives to it in terms of challenging US hegemony, they are still military force and it would not be surprising if there was truth to war crime allegations.
War is the complete dehumanization of a populace. Give human beings guns and authority and atrocities will happen irrespective of state ideology.

this is a pretty good overview of what likely happened
I recommend watching these videos from the bottom up, since the bottom-most video is the oldest and the top-most video is the newest.
It was abandoned because the scandal accomplished nothing and an investigation isn’t in Ukraine/NATO’s interest.
