Welcome again to everybody! Make yourself at home <3 In the time honoured tradition of our group, here is our weekly discussion thread!

Also check out our telegram https://t.me/real_genzedong!

Subreddit archive is available here: https://tankies.la/archive and is updated through yesterday, however it is still heavily under construction and you should expect continued disruptions/changes in usability of the page over the coming weeks. Be warned, it’s like marxists.org level of web design as I’m only interested in it working, not its appearance rn.

Cheers

Military and Police have showed up in my high school today to leech some clueless highschoolers. They do this every year apparently. The recruiters even started calling juniors and seniors (including me) to sign up for shit. They brought fucking bouncy castle shit with their logos plastered all over it. Makes me fucking sick, them doing this.

I revived a plant that suddenly started dying this weekend. I threw a load of coffee rests over it and the fucker is now stronger than ever.

Also, a copy of Blackshirts and Reds just fell on my doorstep. I´m looking forward to reading it.

Coffee revives plants !? Also nice, it’s a very good book. Maybe lemmygrad should have a list with “must reads”?

Yeah apparently it contains nutritious substances like potassium, so if you have leftover coffee(grounds) you can use it on most of your indoor plants.

My gf’s mom has a big vegetable garden and she also uses it to keep snails away. They don’t like caffeine.

O shit thank you! Is it similar to using plant food? Better than repotting haha, semi unrelated but I remember seeing an article that birds are learning to use tobacco within their nests since it is a natural pesticide. Same kind of pragmatism.

Yes and no. I believe it’s not good for plants to only use coffee because it contains a lot of nitrogen as well. Plants with an acidic ground will do well with coffee though. But most of the plants I have in my house, which are common houseplants, do pretty well on coffee.

The intelligence of birds can be scary sometimes.

It is already a word in Dutch. We have one too for the day before yesterday but I don’t know how to translate it.

Apparently the similarly archaic English word is “nudiustertian”, but that doesnt roll off the tongue quite so well

Edit: oh wait theres “ereyesterday” which sounds a lot better

Which is also the literal translation in Dutch. Interesting.

          Edit: talking about ereyesterday.

The more I learn about different European languages, the more English starts to look like an outlier, not the other way around (as we are sometimes Led to believe). No gendering of nouns, no word for day after tomorrow or before yesterday. And it just keeps going.

Blackshirts and Reds is great so far.

I got in an argument with someone about communism and they really had problems with the EVERYONE MAKES THE SAME, THAT DOESNT WORK and the BUT WHAT ABOUT FREEDOM arguments.

Somehow I could not find any good explanation about these topics. Does someone on here have some good sources for this? Especially the wages thing. I understand what Marx meant with his wage labour theory and I understand communist visions for wages, but I couldn’t really explain that stuff clearly yesterday. Thanks comrades.

Look at past successes of Socialism. In the USSR more ‘advanced’ careers like doctors were paid more. What was amazing about the Soviet system was that you could do virtually any job and have decent living standards unlike the west. Their was however incentive if you wanted to earn more.

Based friends are great. The friends I grew up with have not yet made it to communism unfortunately.

One even joined a neolib party. Naturally, I clown him at every chance I get. The best was when he used the communist fist symbol on his political poster because he thought it looked cool lmao

There’s only one effective way to fight fascism and it isn’t voting or peaceful demonstrations. But we in America are just not ready for that conversation. The scariest thing about the current political climate is that I think the fashies on the Right have already figured that out while the Libs are too stupid to even realize the danger.

The people that are crying about Elon owning Twitter are so fucking annoying. I even saw one communist that said he was gonna delete his account

How is Elon worse than the previous bloodsuckers that used to own Twitter? He literally didn’t even do anything yet and everybody’s already being so dramatic for what

I bet 99% of people b*tching about Elon can’t even name a single previous board member or major (10%+ shareholder) of Twitter

The problems seem to be with the things he wants. His whole free speech shit is just a mask for right wing/fascist ideologies to make their voices heard without criticism. It’s going to be a platform where fascist propaganda will run rampant. Yes, you don’t have to use Twitter. But that’s not the point. The point is what I said above, it will be a dat right echo chamber and capitalism will always profit off that.

      It is worrying.

Yeah, I’ve even seen some people go on about how they’re freaked out a billionaire can just buy twitter and control said narrative… Like twitter wasn’t owned by one before, not to mention basically all telecommunications and media giants.

That said, I think a lot of people will be disappointed when they find out in practice “free speech absolutism” doesn’t exist. I am holding out some hope he will stop banning everyone who disagrees with the corporate narrative, but my hopes aren’t high with Mr “we will coup whoever we want”.

Although I agree that Twitter has always allowed misinformation and has a political bias, Musk has reportedly fired employees who have spoken in disagreement with his actions and this if anything is pushing the social platform to the right/pro-capitalist, I don’t use it but it seems Twitter has alot of centrists that at least make fun of landlords and lobbying. I just don’t want a doomer mentality where nothing is worth saving.

The issue is that most people don’t seem to understand how much Twitter was censoring when it came to politics, so they assume that Elon is going to be the one to do it

Your sympathy towards human beings and your fight to make this place more equal must be because something is wrong in your brain!! I, a neurotypical person, have more realistic views such as oppression of minorites and burning the ever living shit out of this planet for the profit of a select few.

What even happened to the Bucha and Kramatorsk stories? Or the hundreds of towns with supposed mass graves Zelensky was talking about? All I hear about now is that Russia is cutting off gass supply to Poland and Bulgaria. But that’s about it.

My home country is now running a story about war crimes commited by the Syrian army because a video of two soldiers killing 10 unarmed people just surfaced. Therefore they can now conclude that the Syrian army has been commiting war crimes on a large scale.

Kramatorsk disappeared because it became obvious that Ukrainians shot a missle at themselves. Bucha is probably similar because the timeline simply didn’t add up.
