Welcome again to everybody! Make yourself at home <3 In the time honoured tradition of our group, here is our weekly discussion thread!

Also check out our telegram https://t.me/real_genzedong!

Subreddit archive is available here: https://tankies.la/archive and is updated through yesterday, however it is still heavily under construction and you should expect continued disruptions/changes in usability of the page over the coming weeks. Be warned, it’s like marxists.org level of web design as I’m only interested in it working, not its appearance rn.

Cheers

The people that are crying about Elon owning Twitter are so fucking annoying. I even saw one communist that said he was gonna delete his account

How is Elon worse than the previous bloodsuckers that used to own Twitter? He literally didn’t even do anything yet and everybody’s already being so dramatic for what

I bet 99% of people b*tching about Elon can’t even name a single previous board member or major (10%+ shareholder) of Twitter

The problems seem to be with the things he wants. His whole free speech shit is just a mask for right wing/fascist ideologies to make their voices heard without criticism. It’s going to be a platform where fascist propaganda will run rampant. Yes, you don’t have to use Twitter. But that’s not the point. The point is what I said above, it will be a dat right echo chamber and capitalism will always profit off that.

      It is worrying.

Yeah, I’ve even seen some people go on about how they’re freaked out a billionaire can just buy twitter and control said narrative… Like twitter wasn’t owned by one before, not to mention basically all telecommunications and media giants.

That said, I think a lot of people will be disappointed when they find out in practice “free speech absolutism” doesn’t exist. I am holding out some hope he will stop banning everyone who disagrees with the corporate narrative, but my hopes aren’t high with Mr “we will coup whoever we want”.

Although I agree that Twitter has always allowed misinformation and has a political bias, Musk has reportedly fired employees who have spoken in disagreement with his actions and this if anything is pushing the social platform to the right/pro-capitalist, I don’t use it but it seems Twitter has alot of centrists that at least make fun of landlords and lobbying. I just don’t want a doomer mentality where nothing is worth saving.

The issue is that most people don’t seem to understand how much Twitter was censoring when it came to politics, so they assume that Elon is going to be the one to do it
