I started playing Mafia with a friend, since it was free on Steam, but we still need to finish it.

I started playing Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor, which is an indie game where you are… well, a spaceport janitor, and it basically works like Doom, you have NPCs’ sprites that follow the players aim, and there are aliens and stuff and you work incinerating trash in this neat little place. It’s a chill game that does not pressure the player and encourages exploration, you live your life day after day (on Theday there is always a carnival, and no curfew), shitty food after shitty food, gender swap after gender swap, and so on.

I also finished Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and it is truly a great work which has some Marxist (even if maybe a bit flawed) analysis in it, it even finishes with a Trotsky quote, which I know is not the best but in terms of video games it raises the bar; thank you The Chinese Room.

I also finished The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, a Polish walking simulator which oh my fucking god is good, the story is okay, nothing super exceptional but the narration and the ambience is magnificent. You are kind of a detective/medium figuring out some murders in some forest that’s in the borders of Poland and Germany, so you have all this beautiful mountains, rivers, creeks, trees, caves, and it’s an open world map (of course the invisible walls are easily findable, but all in all you have a big space to explore). They used a technique called photogrammetry which I don’t have the slightest idea how it works, but I have never seen a forest so alive in a video game in my life, this game would be perfect to have an acid trip and just wander there with a VR.

LOOK AT THESE PEBBLES AND TELL ME THESE ARE NOT THE MOST REALISTIC PEBBLES YOU’VE SEEN IN A VIDEO GAME!

    LOOK AT THIS PLACE!

LOOK AT THIS OTHER PLACE WITH SUN AND TREES!

    IT’S BEAUTIFUL, SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Ambiance, you say? I’ve been looking for good ambiance in a video game for a while. And yeah, that game does look like it would be good in VR, though I’ve never played a game in VR at all. I wouldn’t mind though…
