We discussed this in my environmental science class: Cuba is the only country that qualifies as a “developed country” while being sustainable to the point where if every country lived the same way, the Earth can in theory sustain us indefinitely.
Though I’m disappointed that people in the class immediately made jokes about “I guess communism works lol” seemingly without seriously considering that maybe some socialist policies really are a good idea for sustainability. :/
Lot of people think COMMUNISM = STALIN = URSS. I think that’s one of the issues
Yup. It’s this big scary word that immediately extinguishes serious discussion as soon as it’s brought up, unfortunately. Few people actually know what it means or are aware of the nuances that exist within “socialist” or “communist” policies.

It’s a paradigm that many people can’t see past because capitalism is all they know. It’s not that different from the reaction when heliocentricism or evolution was introduced. I mean, there are still people who reject both of those.

i simply pointed out an example that contradicts your statement, no more wittiness and intelligence than necessary to point this out…

sorry what? I’m not trying change anything with that comment, my comment carries no other information/intent/agenda other than to convey the information that ussr was an example of a country with socialist policies that was terrible for the environment

This is very true. Western countries like to shit on China because they are polluting too much but who is China manufacturing for? They never ask that because they are just concern trolling.
China has also taken up massive reforestation and dedesertification initiatives.
