    We discussed this in my environmental science class: Cuba is the only country that qualifies as a “developed country” while being sustainable to the point where if every country lived the same way, the Earth can in theory sustain us indefinitely.

    Though I’m disappointed that people in the class immediately made jokes about “I guess communism works lol” seemingly without seriously considering that maybe some socialist policies really are a good idea for sustainability. :/

      Lot of people think COMMUNISM = STALIN = URSS. I think that’s one of the issues

        Yup. It’s this big scary word that immediately extinguishes serious discussion as soon as it’s brought up, unfortunately. Few people actually know what it means or are aware of the nuances that exist within “socialist” or “communist” policies.

            It’s a paradigm that many people can’t see past because capitalism is all they know. It’s not that different from the reaction when heliocentricism or evolution was introduced. I mean, there are still people who reject both of those.
