I don’t know if someone has asked this questions here, but how will the communities work in terms of federation. Let’s say we have /c/privacy here and someone on x server decides to create a community with the same. How will that work?

Those will be different communities distinguished by their fully qualified names.
Woah… This kind of looks strange… Why not giving the option to the creator for the community to fusion with other communities of the same name?
Or being able for a user to follow all the communities called c/privacy from any server. 🤔
Because that would be a lot more complicated. We will keep the initial version simple, because activitypub is already complicated enough.
You’re talking about distributed communities, that’s way more complicated even in theory. How do you think a joined community made from two communities on different servers should be moderated and by whom? What should happen if a moderator from one of the servers decides to delete the community on their server? Or rename it? Or change the rules?
I get it. So…completely different communities with different set of rules and user from x instance can post in communities form y instance, if the rules allow them to. And if the mods feel like, they can delete communities from their instance. Right?
Yes. That’s simple enough. If you’re worried about deleting a community by an abusive moderator, I’m not sure what’s the best to be done against that. We’re all people at the end, if one does not like someone’s policy, he/she can create their own community or even start another Lemmy node.
