PDS doesn’t get rid of everything. PDS and other tools use your profile, specifically the New, Hot, Top and Controversial lists, which are each limited to 1,000 entries. If you have more than like 4,000 comments there are a lot that will be missed.
For example, if you saved a link to one of your older Top comments, you may find that there are several of your replies left behind underneath - comments that are too old, not popular nor controversial enough to appear in your profile lists.
The only way to get everything is to use the files from a GDPR or other data access request. With these links you can access every comment and delete them. Shreddit (the github version, not the pay website) can take these files. However, this most definitely uses the API and will break in 2 days.
And all of this says nothing to the fact that reddit has been restoring edited and deleted comments over the last few weeks. They aren’t bringing back everything, and it happens little by little, but even the stuff PDS deletes keeps popping up every day or so.
Go one further, edit and delete all your posts.
Pretty sure RES also just uses the profile, in which case it will be limited just the same as PDS.
The first mod of r/workreform was just one guy, he created the sub in the fallout from the r/antiwork mod going on Fox News. He had something like 500k new users in a day.
Then reddit admin told him he had lots of rule breaking comments and needed to appoint other mods - their mods. He wanted to run votes and elect mods from within the community, but they said no, he must appoint their chosen powermods. They quickly encouraged him to give them more and more power, until they ousted him from his position as moderator and said the sub was now a part of their “projects”.
Ever since then r/workreform has been nothing but a front for permitted dissent, rather than any sort of meaningful movement.
I think lots of instances, basically any of the ones that haven’t been defederated. You could also apply directly to beehaw.
lemmy.ml is still in with them, that’s probably the biggest. Kbin also works I think. Basically just pick one out of the list of instances at the bottom of any webpage.
GDPR gives you the right to correct information if it’s wrong. Given that the information is typically an opinion of the user, that should give the user the right to remove the information.
You should bear in mind, PowerDeleteSuite doesn’t get everything. It can only see what’s in your reddit profile under New, Top, Hot & Controversial - there will be numerous posts that are too old with only 1 or a few karma that aren’t displayed in these lists. In particular, if you go through your top posts of all time, you might find some replies to these posts that you made that the script did not see.
The GDPR archive gives a full list of all the comments. What we need is a FOSS script that can use these csv files to get everything. Apparently Shreddit can take the csv files, however you have to pay $15 to use this feature.
Hijacking the top comment to say: PowerDeleteSuite doesn’t get everything. Not necessarily, r/pics and r/gifs held a vote and now they’re only allowing sexy posts of John Oliver. There are ways to continue protesting with the support of the sub’s users.
You won’t see edits though.
Edit: and others won’t see yours. This is invisible unless you’re on lemmy.ml
It might keep happening, but there will inevitably be diminishing returns.
If you DDOS an instance, what effect will that have on other instances? They probably won’t get be able to comment on posts from that intsance, which is pretty much what you already get when the servers get overloaded. Meanwhile, other instances run fine, and they display the last update from that fed (excluding any edits, which are only displayed if you’re on that local fed anyway).
I’m sure it will be a growing problem, however the problem will inherently be localised.
What I really want to see is some way of aligning fed comms across different instances. For example, the “Lemmy” comm, or “AskLemmy” or “Memes” comm could be combined across all Lemmy instances, so long as they are all under the control of the same mod team, or at least a group of teams working together. Federation shouldn’t be completely exclusive and separate, unless it is advantegous to be; there should be the option of combining feds, perhaps not by default but at least if desired. The word “Federation” itself implies a central organisation, made up of separate yet coordinated entities, after all.
undefined> I want to be where all the smart, fun people are
Hence why you’re on lemmy.ml! :)
Usually tickling his feet makes him release.
You’re not wrong. lemmy.ml only points to one machine at one IP address.
Granted, the fediverse means that posts here are copied elsewhere, but it’s only the initial posts, not the user accounts or edits.
Canada here, not very common until you get close to Canada day or Armistice day.
It’s very common if you’re travelling Europe and are American.
How about letting redditors vote that CEOs shouldn’t get a golden parachute?
How about shareholders sacking a paedophile CEO for gross misconduct with no golden parachute?
One can only dream.
Screw community names, I want instance agnostic URLs for posts and comments.
Right now
lemmy.ml/comment/123456
andlemmy.ml/comment/123456
are two different comments, and there is no simple way to find one comment on another instance (so you can interact with it from your logged in account). What we should have islemmy.ml/comment/123456@lemmy.world
to point to a comment made on another instance, then you can just change the instance name after the@
to find the comment (or post) on any other instance.
