Yes, I know there are a lot of good things about Odysee when compared to other platoforms like Youtube. But I don’t really like it because
- Odysee is really slow. Even the main page doesn’t load properly.
- Most of the videos are not transcoded, so the videos don’t buffer most of the time. Almost all videos are in HD.
- IMO Youtube and Peertube has a much better interface than odysee. Also, the mobile app is not that great.
- Not truly decentralized.
- (For me) It uses crypto currency, which needs too much power, also for generating. https://everestpipkin.medium.com/but-the-environmental-issues-with-cryptoart-1128ef72e6a3
Not all currencies need a lot of power for generating. BTC for example does but others don’t. Not saying that is the case with LBC bcs I don’t know.
Hopefully many of these issues will be fixed over time.
The transcode issue is the biggest one for me as I have a slow connection.
What parts are not decentralized? Besides the hosting of the front-end.

This confuses me because I believe the original uploader needs to have the files, but also once is uploaded on the blockchain is there forever??

from my understanding it can also be federated like Peertube you can just create a instance like Odysee this is holding the videos and is reading and writing to the Blockchain. Its very sad to see that not more lbry hubs exists
Sort of… It wouldn’t be an ‘instance’, more of just a front-end to the LBRY protocol/blockchain
Lack of transparency of approvals is also my pet peeve as well. I was trying to sign my DeafBlind Gaming channel on Youtube and they rejected it without emailing me or even a notification on the site itself!
Furthermore I didn’t even KNOW you needed 400 subs to begin with because they NEVER explained this minimum requirement UPFRONT. You literally have to DIG for that requirement by clicking a absurd link that doesn’t even clearly notates this. It just says “Learn more”…
