We’re spoiled for sure. Like 10 different vmilk choices at stores, and even frozen meatless alts. Vegan chorizo from trader joes is my jam right now.
yeaah, there were more types of vegan salami alone in the store than types of plant-based milks than i have normally lol
Haha that stuff is the tip of the iceberg! You can get Vegan pizzas, cookies, cakes, icecream, burgers, fish sticks, chicken, deli meat slices, and way more. There are tons of luxury vegan options in the US that make it easy to sacrifice nothing while maintaing a full vegan diet.
feeling jealous rn :/
what mental gymnastics people manage to pull to justify not going vegan in developed countries with all this variety is beyond me
A lot of the luxury vegan items are 2-5x the cost of the non-vegan options. Americans have been culturally conditioned for around 100 years to eat meat with every meal and to always buy what is cheapest, so when it’s burgers for dinner and vegan burgers are 3x as expensive it’s an easy decision to just eat beef burgers.
People are becoming a lot more aware, though! Even 2-3 years ago veganism was far more obscure here than it is now. I have experienced increasing accommodation for people with dietary restrictions and restrictive diets; when food is catered there is generally a vegan/ vegetarian option available, and most people I have talked to know multiple people who are vegan, and many have tried to eat a more plant-based diet themselves.
Veganism, where I am in the US, still feels kinda like the most prominent of many “diet fads”, but I think it will become drastically more popular once vegan McNuggets are less expensive than meat McNuggets. I don’t expect many in my generation will ever be exclusive vegans, but I hope in 10-20 years most people will only be consuming meat and animal products 2-3x a week as opposed to 3 times a day with every meal.
we are so spoiled here now, compared to 10 years ago(in the uk) it’s like the golden age. 10 years ago we had no good vegan cheese (cheezly was horrid), there was only really soy milk which I hated on cereal and in coffee to the point I stopped eating cereal and started on black tea and coffee! vege burgers were the beans and rice kind (I still have a soft spot) and Linda McCartney sausages have just been eternally the same! You had to do alot of research to eat out or use happycow and go elsewhere while your friends went somewhere you could only get chips!
Now we have the beyond burger, oat milk, so many vegan restaurants or options that it’s impossible to choose, and vegan blue cheese (“veganzola” is the one!) there’s even ready meals if you are into that sort of thing.
having said that most of the food I cook and rely on isn’t “first” world. Indian, Chinese, middle eastern, african peanut stew! But it’s a privilege to have the choice.
that wuld cost like a fucking eye of my face where i live, it looks so tasty. uwu
yeah, it is expensive no doubt, but to my surprise it was pretty comparable to their non-vegan counterparts in terms of price
That looks a lot like German stuff. It’s grown steadily over the last 10 years. You got a fraction of the products avaible. Enjoy yourself testing it out, there’s something for eyeryone these days.
Looks like you have visited a german grocery :)
not really, but you’re close :)
Switzerland ;P
You deserve it!
Oatly is great. They’ve got a specific barista blend that’s way better if you’re going to use it for coffee too
I treated myself to a vegan salami pizza today and had to lie down midway because I’m tooo fullllll. I wish the entire world went completely vegan so all groceries were vegan. 😮💨
I love these soya removed from the lands of indigenous of Amazon Rainforest, nothing taste better.
Alpro soya does not come from land which was rainforest.
