Rust is funded by big tech companies; I hope Linux devs have the ability to revert to C.

By that logic you could say the Linux kernel is funded by big tech companies. So are you still using it?

Everything is funded by Big Tech companies, deal with it.

  • FSF isn’t funded by big tech companies; but it’s responsible for GNU coreutils and gcc, a widely used technology.

Not now, but it has received funding from them at many points of its history. https://www.fsf.org/patrons/fy2016

Let’s not ignore the members of GCC steering commitee: https://gcc.gnu.org/steering.html

So is Linux itself.

Linux is licensed under the GPL; so freedom for older versions will be preserved if the license gets changed.

Rust is licensed under MIT, so Rust could just change the license to make old versions proprietary.

Rust code is already public, no one can revert that. The only thing thats possible would be to change the license of new releases (and even that is unlikely).

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
