Bad idea to ban trait-selected abortion, IMO; but I would just allow it as some people would just do abortion on their own anyway.

This issue can’t just be boiled down to ableism; it is a large reason for the potential abortions. Ableism is a symptom of capitalism. However, some people don’t have the resources to take care of a(n) (autistic) child; some persons got raped and they got pregnant. Is it “ableist” to abort an autistic child then?

Better to abort a baby for traits you don’t like than to treat it badly because of those traits later.

As long as you select for health traits and not aesthetical or others, it should be fine

    My opinion is that:

    (1) Abortion should be legal without needing to provide a specific reason.

    (2) One should be allowed to perform any type of screening available that would allow them to predict the likelihood of their unborn child having a particular trait.

If both of these conditions are met, then trait-selection abortion is legal by default, because a person can screen the unborn child and then choose to get an abortion without specifying the reason.

From a moral standpoint, I think that it is fine. In some cases I might think that abortion is a reasonable choice. In other cases I might think that the person is being quite shallow if the trait is something like eye color. But I think that it is up to them either way. I don’t feel strongly about protecting a fetus if the parent doesn’t want to have the child for any reason .

Ugh, no one is aborting a child! It is an embryo or a fetus. It also the woman’s choice, period.

I’m a guy and I just don’t think it’s my place to really have an opinion that would involve me judging a woman’s choice to have an abortion or her reasons. The last thing I want to do is make women feel more anxious about getting an abortion by introducing another factor of external judgment into the equation.

I’ll add that just because very few women openly admit they regret having kids, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a thing. If someone isn’t able to afford proper care for themselves much less a kid, I damn sure am not going to judge them for having an abortion. I will however judge the fuck out of guys who feel they have a right to judge people in a position they’ll never be in.
