does this just mean that the place the where they collected data about OS usage couldn’t get access to the info about that person’s OS, or does that mean that they literally have no idea what OS that is? 🤔
It’s nice to see Windows’ decline, but Android being the most popular OS is a bit horrifying. What percentage of Android users are patched against the latest known vulnerabilities? Last I checked, it was a small minority of them.
Similar to Windows 11 Home edition, Windows 11 Pro edition now requires internet connectivity. If you choose to setup device for personal use, MSA will be required for setup as well. You can expect Microsoft Account to be required in subsequent WIP flights.
By design of how the world works, people cannot have 100% online computers all the time, and surely people who pirated Windows are not going to risk making an account, let alone for linking purposes to their machine. Who knows.
You only need the connection for activation, not for general use.
Usually you can buy a windows license activation code from someone for $3-5, why would you pirate it? You can get the official windows version and put in your code.
It’s better for windows if you use such a license than linux.
Kind of explains why Windows suddenly developed the Android subsystem.
curious about the massive “Unknown” spikes 🤔

My browser randomizes the user agent string. I probably end up there.
I’m not sure what the “Unknown’s” are either… maybe just hidden user agents or other devices like TVs.

Windows having close to 100% market share is stuff of nightmares.
Trust me, Windows was hell lot freer and open than its next alternative MacOS. And Windows basically announced its death recently with this https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2022/02/16/announcing-windows-11-insider-preview-build-22557/
This will not do much IMO.

Many people feel Ameliorated Windows is better though. At this point I just prefer Linux with Wine/Proton and a Windows XP VM.
Linux is always the better choice :) but many people still rely on windows and think linux is just something for nerds
Some people were predicting the steam deck release would cause massive new Linux adoption. Apparently that didn’t happen.
Steam just released and there is a production bottleneck. For example, mine is scheduled for “after q4”. Give it a few years.
…because it hasn’t released
Well, shortages for one
wow I feel old because I still use a computer
