Hey, Lemmy people.

Apologies if this is the wrong community for this question, but I have a feeling my phone is about to die and I need a new one. I was hoping my current would last until either the Pinephone or Librem 5 were in a usable state, but as it stands it looks like I will have to wait a bit longer. So in the interim, Android it is.

Is there a cheapo Android phone out there that doesn’t make you jump through too many hoops to install a custom ROM? All I need is a device that I can run F-Droid on without gapps installed.

OnePlus One sounds very nice, actually. I’ll take a look around to see if anyone is selling one used. Thanks!

You bought a refurbished phone and the home button doesn’t work? Were you aware of that before you bought it?

The main concern I would have with a refurb would be the battery. So many people take really bad care of their phone battery - letting it run right down in particular - and while a battery can be “reconditioned” itself (resetting the onboard charge controller all lithium batteries have by running it down to zero then fully charging it), once they are permanently degraded they only get worse.
