The Vietnamese war wasn’t even popular among contemporary USians. You don’t need to be a communist to oppose genocide, you just need a heart and a brain.

It isn’t popular among Amerikkkans mostly because some poor soldier boys got PTSD and trauma from massacring villages…

The majority could care less about the horrific American war crimes committed. Many don’t even know about their existence.

That’s how it is now, but the war really was extremely unpopular among the American public even before soldiers started coming home. Student protests in particular got so big that the national guard was called on several of them and at Kent State, they shot 4 students dead. Also notable is the guy who immolated himself in front of the pentagon (Norman Morrison) and the speech MLK Jr. did a year before he was assassinated.

The person who made the tweet is legitimately more chauvinistic than the people who actually went to war.

And the number of soldiers who were drafted but ended up fragging their own commanding officers is seriously under reported.

There are stories of Vietnam vets who were charged with murder after allegedly fragging their officers’ mess. The prosecutions failed and they were freed. Incredibly difficult to prove who threw a grenade.

Obligatory reminder what happened to lt. Calley. He got off with light slap on hand and was publicly hailed as hero. And that was one guy who actually fucked up to cover his warcrime and was judged.

War might be unpopular for part of US population, but was completely justified along with all atrocities to the other major part.

    Armchair historian tbf.

It’s right in the name, I never expect much from western non-leftists talking about history, and I’m hence never disappointed

So, admitting facts that are held in near complete consensus among mostly anticommunist western historians and in general knowledge is now “ebil commie propoganda?”

  • I wonder how he’s gonna “solve” the same thing with Japanese and atomic bombings. They were very not communist and it was still a fucking atrocity somehow. I wonder why.

Actually, most Westerners unironically think the nuking of Japan was good.

Which, at least their takes on East Asian wars are consistently stupid?

      • Oh, I know, I was just wondering what his exuse would be there. Probably something about saving the lives of Ameikkkan soldiers. As if the only intellectually honest conclusion there isn’t that it’s totally fine to nuke any country instead of conventional war…
