He was a member of a communist party, and spit some good things so I’d say so. Not sure if he was a tankie nerd like some of us but had good intentions for his people definitely

More than that according to John Potash in The FBI War on Tupac Shakur.

Should be required reading / listening (there’s an audiobook version, very well narrated) for anyone interested in Hip Hop and Rap (it makes it clear why the genre went downhill (IMO)).

IIRC Tupac was the youngest leader of the Black Panthers at one time, but he withdrew from that to pursue music and acting. He planned to and then used his fame and money to push for revolution. But once he became famous, given his messages, he was targeted by the FBI and police (an example of him talking about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbXwBsHMlbA).

Tupac was murdered for (very nearly) uniting the crips and bloods under a class-conscious political organisation. He moved towards gangster rap to build his street cred, but his intentions were always political.

There’s loads of shady shit with Death Row, too. Essentially, Tupac’s record label(s) at first allowed him to rap what he wanted, but they were bought out so the new owners could control him. He didn’t want anything to do with Death Row…

      nsfw spoiler

While in prison the guards would put their fingers into his open gun wound (in his genitals) and perform cavity searches before and during his visits with his lawyer. Basically, he was subjected to counter-insurgency practices repeatedly for months. Eventually, he broke.

…he ended up signed to Death Row. His more revolutionary music was suppressed.

Records show that while he was in prison, a narrative about hip-hop beef was pushed through all the relevant media, spread by people wanting to cause a rift between Tupac and other musicians and revolutionaries, and to keep Tupac focussed on this beef rather than revolution.

The story about ‘a real life snitch named Haitian Jack’ is allegedly about an FBI agent who gained his trust and turned his life upside down.

And then there’s his Outlawz: Yaki Kaddafi, E.D.I Mean, Kastro, Hussein Fatal, Napoleon, Mopreme “Komani” Shakur (some info on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlawz). (No idea what they were thinking with ‘Tyruss Gerald “Mussolini“ Himes’; that’s unfortunate.)

EDIT: I forgot. He also liked ‘that Russian Guy… Stalin’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxCicAVUxJ4 (EDIT 3: @LVL@lemmygrad.ml beat me to it.)

EDIT 2: The world wasn’t ready for theory-reading rappers.

Tupac was the youngest leader of the Black Panthers at one time

nope definetly not, possibly won some kind of election in a very small local chapter right before he left them entirely

Tupac was murdered for (very nearly) uniting the crips and bloods under a class-conscious political organisation.

No, Tupac was not even a member of either group. Anyone who would say something like this doesn’t even understand how the crips and bloods are organized. Tupac did briefly sell drugs, but claimed he quit when a customer attempted to purchase crack with her wedding ring. He was very outspoken against gangs in general and threatened to murder the entire Black Disciples gang publicly on stage after they murdered one of their own 11 year old hitmen.

The bloods were never on the same level as the crips this wasn’t a red vs blue team kind of thing as it was often portrayed in the media. The crips were a very loosely based group of gangs, that often fought eachother, they were called the cribs then Tookie Williams united all the rival cribs and formed the crips. Which was already a very left wing revolutionary organization. Crip literally means Community. Revolution. In. Progress. The bloods or Blood. Love. Over. Our. Depression. formed after the Crips took over 80-90% of the black LA gangs to fight against them. So the Crips were never all that united, and the Bloods were nowhere near as large as them. The crips and bloods fight eachohter, but the crips also fight other crips, and bloods fight other bloods, and often 2 blood and crip sets unite to fight another blood and/or crip gang. So the idea that anyone could unite the bloods and crips at all is silly, that it would be a non-member musician is sillier, that it would form some kind of communist political group after that is even sillier.

Tupacs story about the Latin kings is completely different as the kings are, again a completely different organization, not “team yellow” many of their members are not criminals, they are church going sober upstanding citizens. It’s closer to a fraternity or hispanic version of the freemasons than a street gang. So 2pac was saying the latin kings were being unfairly targeted because they were political and that if they were just selling drugs to the hispanic community not only would the cops ignore them but the CIA would show up to help them out.

The story about ‘a real life snitch named Haitian Jack’ is allegedly about an FBI agent who gained his trust and turned his life upside down.

Haitian Jack was a ruthless murderous druglord affiliated with Nicky Barnes who turned informant later in life.

You’ll have to read the book. I’m just summarising it here, and poorly by the sounds of it.

Well what this tells me is that we need an educational post about the Black Panther Party, I would do it myself but I am still very ignorant.

EDIT: Especially with Intercommunalism, I am finding not much light has been shown on this theory which it very much deserves, seems to explain the “contradictions”(if you could call it that) of self determination

Good idea start with the wiki page

Curtis Austin states that by late 1968, Black Panther ideology had evolved from black nationalism to become more a “revolutionary internationalist movement”: [The Party] dropped its wholesale attacks against whites and began to emphasize more of a class analysis of society. Its emphasis on Marxist–Leninist doctrine and its repeated espousal of Maoist statements signaled the group’s transition from a revolutionary nationalist to a revolutionary internationalist movement. Every Party member had to study Mao Tse-tung’s “Little Red Book” to advance his or her knowledge of peoples’ struggle and the revolutionary process

Hey man, you are kind of worrying me…

You were just talking about how the BPP wasn’t communist, and now you quote a decent blurb, even if it is wikipedia, explaining how they are?

Not just cause of this thread but also how you lost it on the Nuclear discussion, saying stuff regarding us apparently wanting to line the pockets of Monty Burns?

I will not respond to anything else you say, out of concern for your mental health, at least not for a while.

Please, from comrade to comrade shut off the device you are on and take a break, maybe walk around outside, maybe take a cold shower when you can. Nobody is trying to gotcha or push “conspiracy theories”, no one here is out to get you, so walking away is not letting your guard down. Okay?

oh please if anything I’m bored, do you think this is the first time ive had any of these discussions? want to circle back to nuclear power I got maybe 0.1% of nuclear power take out back there… tupac, black panthers, bloods and crips, how about suge knight? umm crack cocaine and the CIA? Cointelpro? just things I gossip about when bored I guess, small talk really… I also have to go through this nonsense with hip hop fans, like “guys im actually a communist, I actually know this stuff like the back of my hand, I do communist things all the time please believe me Stalin was not planning to kill all the white people.” lol… Nothing wrong with conspiracy theories, I tell people Reagan invented AIDS and crack all the time, doesn’t mean I believe it.

No, he was a communist sympathizer maybe, he knew about communism through the Black Panthers but that’s about it. His mother was sort of in the panthers, as was his dad. But his mother quit the panthers, and became addicted to crack. He was not raised in some kind of revolutionary home of black communist leaders. Tupac did join the communist party, but likely because his girlfriend at the time made him. None of these things were well known to his fans, they largely came out years later after his death. His music was not filled with communist rhetoric or anything like that. He was a devout Christian, and constantly made references to Jesus and the bible. He’s literally crucified in one of his videos. He was also a big fan of conspiracy theories often bordering on antisemetism, one of his albums was called Killuminati as he was a big believer that the illuminati was real, and an evil group of white people who control the world. Which is why after his death, many people began speculating that he was assassinated, or maybe still alive, or Idk he’s a zombie vampire now or something. Tupac was actually not all that famous before he died. He was only 25 and claimed he had only made $200k total in his entire music career, to give you an idea of how times have changed a handwritten letter of Tupacs recently sold at auction for $200k. Tupac’s death while somewhat mysterious was not all that surprising as he had been shot multiple times before, and was no stranger to shooting people himself, alot of people don’t know Tupac once shot 2 cops and was acquitted on self defense. He was also extremely paranoid. When 2pac was first shot he didn’t blame, the FBI, or the illuminati or the KKK he blamed his good friend at the time Biggie Smalls, with no evidence or even much of a motive, Biggie was deeply hurt by the accusation, but figured there was no way to convince him otherwise. So other than his mothers very tenuous connections to the black panthers, and possible falling in love with a young communist activist as a teen he was not a communist, I doubt he would’ve even known the definition

can you find anyother info, other than this card and that he briefly dated a communist at the age of 17? its part of the “tupac is alive” conspiracy theory that he was some kind of secret communist hellbent on taking over the government. its not true, alot of people in the panthers didn’t even know the black panthers were affiliated with communists.

again he did not grow up in some revolutionary communist household, tupacs mother left the black panthers and struggled with crack addiction. Tupacs father was in the panthers, but tupac never knew him and his mother lied to him for most of his life about who his father was, and then even lied on his death certificate about it. Tupac had a very strained relationship with his mother to say the least. even this mystery girl he dated wasn’t some confirmed communist revolutionary, she was the daughter of the chairman of the communist party of Maryland. It’s just the most tenuous connections imaginable, I could probably connect Tupac to al queda easier. I should also say, I am a huge tupac fan and know for a fact none of his music references communism. Kanye West has praised communism more in his music, fucking loves Cuba for some reason

I know of plenty communist artists who never reference communism

                name one

He never expressed bougie capitalist views or pro-western war machine views either you see?

neither did osama? whats your point?

I mean I dont get how you know that all his family where in the panthers

even the black panthers were not an outright communist organization, they started to fight against racism, and police brutality, not too different than the Crips, again many members were not even aware they were affiliated with communists at all… You must be trotskyist because you keep calling the people of the Bronx peasants
