There is in my world. Im a fan of Cyberpunk. There was a new cyberpunk anime an Netflix now. I generally enjoyed it alright but one character seems like a red flag. Of courses this is unanimously the favorite character among fans accross all forums. Some people, including myself, have raised concerns only to be met with a sea of opposition. Ive seen people belittle others for sharing their experiences being sexualized and abused in their youth. Heinous shit and unending justifications.

This is not something I regularly deal with. This is the second anime ive seen in like 10 years (mostly because it has this reputation). But now it is plain as day that pedophilia is the norm and there is basically nothing I can do but shake my fist at the sky.

I heard that even one of my favorite characters is sexualized in the original anime, but of course that’s cut in my country because they censor it like every normal country, so I know nothing about it.

As you said, pedophilia is literally normalized.

Reminder that most countries treat cartoon CP as real CP, legally speaking. Meaning it’s just as illegal to view, possess, distribute, produce, and advertise it. Notable exceptions are the US and Japan, what a surprise.

Even the UK, Canada, Australia and NZ are good in that, one of the few things to say positive about these countries is that they remove any form of it, no excuse of it being animated/drawn/fictional etc, yankees are incapable of sane human thinking and they wonder why.

Most fucked up shit comes from USA.

Actually, the US is a MASSIVE burden on this, because they allow that shit and a huge part of the intrnet are hosted in the US. And certain people are really fucking adamant about posting it fucking everywhere. Tons of people break the law in this way without knowing it because they aren’t knowledgeable of what actually counts as CP under the law, and most people assume it’s really hard to accidentally come across that stuff on the regular internet (which, that’s mostly true for real CP, but for cartoon CP, it’s disgustingly easy to get exposed to that stuff with supposedly benign browsing because the US legalizes it). And once you’re exposed to it, it’s a fucking nightmare. This is where the unknowing law breaking usually happens: it’s not as simple as just clicking away from it because your browser or social media app caches the image, so you’d better drop everything and clear your caches and wipe your free disk space (easier said than done on a phone or a computer with an SSD), because you’re now possessing CP, and knowingly doing that is illegal can get you on the sex offender list (remember, most countries, rightfully mind you, make no legal distinction between real-life and cartoon CP). Depending on where you are, it’s also mandatory to report CP to either a government tip line or the police if you come across it anywhere, so you better do that too.

US pedos also post that stuff to sites in countries where it’s illegal, and that’s a nightmare for web admins and moderators because now THEY’RE possessing CP, and usually if you’re a site admin and you know your site has CP, you have to deal with that in a very specific way, including reporting it and potentially needing safeguard and submit evidence for an investigation, which eats the resources of small web platforms (like fediverse instances), who likely also don’t have a legal advisor and might not know what the actual procedure for dealing with CP is, which is a problem because they can land in really serious legal trouble if they don’t follow it correctly.

The US and other countries legalizing it makes it horrible for everyone.

Why is USA so disgusting, why are there so many pedophiles there, they are everywhere, not just on a few social medias, you see them everywhere in comments defending it, they would defend it to their deaths…

People talk about it like it’s a casual thing, will they ever be stopped?

I think the most disturbing thing in this is just how prevalent it is. Seriously, it’s so bad that simply searching the names of certain benign cartoon characters (who are from media are completely SFW) is enough to expose you to CP, on the first page of results. Jesus Christ, how many fucking people are into cartoon CP for that to be happening?!

Also: it doesn’t have to be explicit sex. Depending on the country, the definition of CP generally also includes sexualized views the genitals, breasts, or buttocks, with many places counting it even if there’s no actual nudity. With some countries going as far as saying so long as it can be established that a piece of media in any medium (including audio and writing) sexualizes a minor, it’s CP. Actually, the latter is the norm in the rest of the English speaking countries, including here in Canada, who have jailed US pedos trying to cross the border with that content on their computers, and those people are slapped with the much more serious crime of distributing CP as opposed to simple possession since they tried to bring it across an international border. Justice served.

In Canada (as in other countries though I don’t know right off which) it doesn’t even have to be an actual minor. For instance: schoolgirl porn is technically CP under Canadian law because, no matter the age of the actors, it depicts fictionalized sexualized minors. The sheer amount of illegal CP-adjacent shit that fills websites makes most of the Internet unsafe to browse, as there is the possibility (however slim) that the authorities could use your browsing against you.

The simple solution is to obviously ban CP-related imagery, but heaven forbid you ever say that, you’ll get bombarded with accusations that you’re trying to “force your cultural values” on others. If “cultural values” involves the sexualization of minors count me the fuck out of that culture mate.

I just don’t get how it’s that much normalized on the internet. It happened to a lot of my favorite characters, I just want to browse some cute fanart or draw them and I see it. Most of the characters were/are around my age, as the person in comments stated, they do that to characters who went through emotional abuse, some even raped, harassed, bullied, went through emotional trauma and god knows what else, and their excuse to everything is that ‘‘it’s fictional and anime so it’s 100% ok’’…

Any form of CP should be banned and pedophiles jailed, they went on hours long fights in comments to defend it, I encountered that a multiple times. It may sound weird, but this hurts me, messes me up and I feel sorry even if it’s a fictional character, god forbid a real person. It’s beyond me that it’s so normalized, it’s everywhere, people joke about it, it appears on YouTube, like it’s a casual thing. When someone speak up to it, this happens, American pedophiles defend it like their life is depended on it. They are trying to spread it everywhere, happens to my siblings also, we try so hard to stay away from this and never see it, but it happens every few days on the internet, I vomited a few times myself because of it.

So glad I left the anime community in highschool… There is literal fearmongering about how removing CP (and I dont mean the communist party) will destroy all cool anime ever. I believed the shit, still recovering like 4 year later.

Pedophiles complaining because they can’t sexualize children like in USA, I even heard that some of my favorite animes had sexual content originally before they normally removed it in my country and pedophiles are screeching because of it. I didn’t even knew some animes had it in the first place before I heard it in the comments.

Pedophiles and sexual content destroy and ruin everything, we must work together and stop them as a society.

  • …Trigger apparently refused to get rid of or redesign that character.

People can argue about freedom of speech all they want.

    But I have questions.

WHAT is being said and what NEEDS to be said to have Rebecca be a kid or look like a kid?

How would the show be less awesome if Rebecca was depicted as a young woman?

Why? If it isnt about sexualizing children; then WHAT EXACTLY is the message of the art?

      • They would deny that though. So if we take that seriously, then why else does it seem so important to have children in adult situations?

Like… Rebecca a child murders the hell out of people and then gets… (Redacted).

        • I had a comment on one of the cyberpunk subs saying that anime routinely appeals to pedophiles and it was deleted for not being “constructive criticism.” Like holy shit people…

Okay. So like straight up, did I see Rebecca rub some dude’s crotch to distract him? I could have swore I saw that. My mind immediately went to Rebecca being a little person and NOT a child when I saw that. And I think I prefer to see it that way, honestly.

            • I dont remember exactly but honestly it doesn’t surprise me. The show was kind of a blur but as soon as she appeared I got the Harley Quinn vibe, young and damaged by abuse and trauma. Not a comfortable dog whistle to pick up on given the reputation anime has.
