What do you do that makes you feel happy? Just purely for the sake of it. If you don’t have something, maybe you should. Having that source of joy is extremely important. It can be anything.

one of mine is instrumental music. vocals are overrated and distracting. I am also a hopeless romantic who probably reads about as many romance novels as a middle aged mom with marriage issues. Its disgusting, but it makes me happy lol.

Sending hugs to all you!

I’m an artist. I started about…two years ago, as a way to combat depression-fueled insomnia. Without drawing I honestly don’t know if I’d still be here.

I also love to read really pulpy fantasy. Dragons and wizards and elves and shit. I know a lot of people look down on it, but I don’t care, I just want a gnome to overthrow a warlord or something.

I have a massive respect for artists, from ones who are starting out all the way to the professionals. Its both fun and an outlet like no other.

That genre is fun! I’ll punch em if they say otherwise. Do you have a favorite one?

My favourite pulpy fantasy is probably Dragonlance. When I was a wee little closeted lass I used to read my big brother’s copies, so now many years later they hold a special place for me.

Recently read this trilogy called the Sea of Ink and Gold by Traci Chee that actually blew me away. It was also the first time I came across a fantasy book with a trans character, and she didn’t just exist to be the subject of transphobia? It was wild. I’m so happy for the kids these days who are where I was at, hiding away, reading books, and getting to see someone like themselves. I think it would have been really nice to have that back then.

Little things like that really help me to keep the work I do in perspective. I’m not trying to make things better for me; I’m trying to make sure that the little ones who come next have a much better chance at things, and get to be themselves without the suffering I went through. We have a long way to go (and sometimes it feels like we’re backsliding) but I let myself really embrace these small hopes and tiny victories.

Not many things bring me joy lately, including things that used to. Used to love a good meal, but health issues and rising prices made it difficult. Got into miniature painting, but recent events make it all feel shallow and pointless. Used to like sci-fi books, but can’t concentrate nowadays. Even now it’s almost midnight and I’m lying awake, writing this pointless post. IDK what makes me happy these days. Spending time with my family, I guess. But even that’s not easy.

The thing thats been keeping me going has been music. I’ve mostly lost interest in tv, movies and video games but music makes me really happy. For most of my life I have been afraid of getting into music because I was afraid of other peoples opinions because theres a lot of stigma and stereotypes and shit around certain genres and styles of music out there. But over these past 2 years or so I have been in isolation with no friends or anything so I have been determined to find music that I like which has led me down the rabbit hole of “progressive” rock. King crimson, gentle giant, genesis, pink floyd, van der graaf generator, area, gong, Frank Zappa, henry cow, soft machine, etc. I could go on for days listing all the amazing artists/groups I have discovered that are labeled as “prog”. Getting into all of this has really made me want to learn to create my own far out music. Its great to finally have music that I really love and can share with people (if I ever meet new people irl who are willing to talk to me)

    Beans also make me happy

Omg the instrumental music thing is my jam. I have a big list on YouTube of just random stuff. All kinds. Stuff that makes you want to go fight things, stuff that’s super chill and makes you feel like you should be meditating in a forest with fairies and shit flying around. Stuff that’s real dark and depressing. Everything for a mood of how I feel or want to feel.

I’ll sit down in the evening and watch some random show and end up pausing and listening to music with my eyes closed just imagining my own little stories to it. I have certain song that I used to clear my head if I have something too up beat stuck in my head when I’m going to sleep. Very few songs I listen to have words.
