You can’t do this to me. We were cluster B comrades /s
Hahahaha I’m sorry I needed to make that joke 😭
What do you mean when you say sociopath? Afaik that’s not a diagnosis that’s used in psychology anymore (if it ever was? The difference between psychopaths and sociopaths was never clear to me). I believe it’s called anti-social personality disorder now.
Yep the antisocial personality disorder.
I was taught that is another term for Psychopathy. There is a bunch of overlap between the two yet a psychopath is born and a sociopath is created, so maybe the term covers both classifications.
There is some intention to differenciate the two by the ability each one has to mask their internal experience.
Both can be born, but antisocial personality disorder gets influenced by external factors, basically (neglect, violence, poverty, behavioral problems).
Genetics plays a role in antisocial personality disorder (APD). You’re more likely to develop APD if someone in your family has a genetic predisposition for it.
But people with APD can be ‘created’ in a number of ways. External influences like poverty, emotional neglect, traumatic events in childhood, head trauma or even cultural influences play a role. With these things, you can apply a Marxist analysis of course.
What often strikes me in these discussion about psychiatry and psychology over here is that there seems to be a sentiment of ‘capitalism did it!’. While that is true for a lot of things, these fields of science should not get a tunnel vision with regards to capitalism being the sole perpetrator.
Edit: but a valid criticism one could have is how the causes of these issues are treated. Right now, poverty is looked at as a cause of many mental health issues. But when we’re discussing prevention of said issues, the general problem of why poverty exists isn’t mentioned, which is of course capitalism. A Marxist view of treating mental health issues would be a massive leap forward.
As I understand the concept, it would make sense someone growing up in a position without control over their day to day whatsoever could eventually dull any empathy and emotion as a protective measure plus figure out ways in which they can manipulate situations to obtain control.
Hmm. Seems like a good theory
I would go as far as saying that the capitalist system is by itself contradictory to empathy. I recognise the empathy to be the evolutionary developed mechanism which allows us to sympathise with hardships of other people and their being thus helping us bond and solve each other’s problems collectively. That’s the basis for the communal existence. Empathy helps us bond and survive as one organism.
Capitalism is purely individualistic and so empathy naturally dies out like a hindrance.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I’m just some guy. I think I was born neurodivergent and the social isolation that followed stopped me from learning “normal” empathy and relations. I won’t say I experienced any real childhood trauma beyond that.
I believe the diagnosis is bullshit and highly political. Only purpose it serves is stigmatize our experience.

I have a problem with this. Growing up, I was held accountable for my actions. But people like me don’t particularly understand punishment as a deterrent.
The child downvoting this like “actually, I don’t agree with your life’s story”. You’re insane.

We could even call it solipsism.
I think it’s very much environmental.
I don’t believe in “psychopaths.”
There’s a few research papers which identify psychopaths have different autonomic nervous systems. The autonomic nervous system controls the flight or flight response. The difference found in psychopaths nervous system results in a complete dulling of this function. Meaning they dont get stressed which explains how they can lie and a lie detector can’t pick it up. Psychopaths need to have a running history from birth until the early teens years of certain traits whereas a sociopath would be more inline with the classic “they were a great kid until they starting hanging with the wrong crowd”.
Here is a solid breakdown of the differences of you’re curious: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=6dv8zJiggBs
You sure? I heard that it was all debunked, but I could be wrong.
That’d be news to me but science is always making discoveries and assess previous discoveries. If you have a link I’d like to see it.
Sure gotcha
Well sure. What’s the environment that created them?
Suburbs are a good indicator.
Based on entirely unscientific observation, growing up bourgeoisie could be a huge influence. You can’t exploit millions or even billions of people just to hoard even more property and resources for yourself without having some anti-social personality issues.
Generally poverty, bad family relations, etc…
Is there any instructional papers to introduce me to the basics of psychosis?
I used more words than I needed to
