As I understand the concept, it would make sense someone growing up in a position without control over their day to day whatsoever could eventually dull any empathy and emotion as a protective measure plus figure out ways in which they can manipulate situations to obtain control.
I would go as far as saying that the capitalist system is by itself contradictory to empathy. I recognise the empathy to be the evolutionary developed mechanism which allows us to sympathise with hardships of other people and their being thus helping us bond and solve each other’s problems collectively. That’s the basis for the communal existence. Empathy helps us bond and survive as one organism.
Capitalism is purely individualistic and so empathy naturally dies out like a hindrance.
