Genetics plays a role in antisocial personality disorder (APD). You’re more likely to develop APD if someone in your family has a genetic predisposition for it.

But people with APD can be ‘created’ in a number of ways. External influences like poverty, emotional neglect, traumatic events in childhood, head trauma or even cultural influences play a role. With these things, you can apply a Marxist analysis of course.

What often strikes me in these discussion about psychiatry and psychology over here is that there seems to be a sentiment of ‘capitalism did it!’. While that is true for a lot of things, these fields of science should not get a tunnel vision with regards to capitalism being the sole perpetrator.

Edit: but a valid criticism one could have is how the causes of these issues are treated. Right now, poverty is looked at as a cause of many mental health issues. But when we’re discussing prevention of said issues, the general problem of why poverty exists isn’t mentioned, which is of course capitalism. A Marxist view of treating mental health issues would be a massive leap forward.
