Technically there’s a base minetest game that the install packages include but you probably want to use the downloader to install other games (or mods) to get anything out of it if you’re just a player.

Added Wild Cotton: grows in savannas, drops Cotton Seeds

I like this change. I always thought cotton was too hard to get. Even if you added a mod for creatures to the game, you would rarely encounter enough sheep or spiders to collect enough wool for a bed within the first few days of playing.
And having to spend the night waiting in your fully secured house, that just gets old quickly.

The previous unmodded way of obtaining it, by breaking Jungle Grass, was also not exactly self-explanatory.

I never quite understood minetest - minecraft isn’t good because it is a blocky shape, it’s good because it is quite well balanced. Minetest isn’t fun to me unfortunately

Minetest kind of just became a base for other games you get from the content downloader rather than a thing meant to be experienced by itself as a full featured Minecraft clone. It’s why my title says game engine rather then calling it a game

      Edit for typo

If you’d like a more Minecraft-like experience in Minetest, you can install MineClone 2. It does also have some advantages over Minecraft, like better performance and a much greater world height, allowing for actual mountains and actual caves.

Of course, it also has drawbacks compared to Minecraft, e.g. Minecraft has some more content, but yeah, I think, it’s a matter of taste which you prefer.
