Since I have been reading that DuckDuck is not very privacy friendly and that SearX gets broken by google all the time…
Libre culture is all about empowering people. While the general philosophy stems greatly from the free software movement, libre culture is much broader and encompasses other aspects of culture such as music, movies, food, technology, etc.

Libre culture is a very very broad topic, and while it’s perfectly okay for a conversation to stray, I do ask that we keep things generally on topic.

i’m wondering if it could work if we’d focus on our own search engine indexer. Like, there exists one, but it is not used much.
So, when we create our libre search index, we are free. And i guess it could be popular, people seem to show general interest.
I guess it depends what you are searching for, and what your requirements are. I’ve been using Mojeek, MetaGer, Ecosia in the last few weeks. I found out that for searching for playlists on concertzender.nl Ecosia gives splendid results (Mojeek doesn’t have that indexed, and MetaGer scores for sure worse than Ecosia). My default is MetaGer, which gives me reasonably good results in general. I still use DDG via Tor browser every now and then. Some time ago SearX on my private server didn’t break, though I was not too happy with the results (and I get annoyed that it doesn’t always save my preferred theme. I’d like to try it again though.
Good question. I sadly use DDG by default, because I haven’t had the best results with Searx. I haven’t been able to find a satisfactory alternative for myself. I hope that one day, the libre community will develop our own search engine.
I really wish searx was better, because it has such promise.
Same! It’s usability issues are just too crushing right now.
Unfortunately its impossible to work better because it relies on Google and other search engines to play nice. Of course those companies will do everything in their power to sabotage a new rival.
