Is then Signal really a good thing and people just shouting false warnings?

    • MobileCoin is Signals version of Monero, or that is how the project got pushed.
    • It requires Intel SGX to be enabled, see here.
    • Later they implemented MobileCoin Fog
    • Whitepaper from 2017
    • I dislike projects that sell themselves with marketing rather than fundamentals.
    • Governance entirely relies on their foundation.
    • How does it work.

    No nos on the no

    • The total supply is 250 million.
    • I don’t think it is publicly known what the circulating supply is. The whitepaper does not mention it.
    • Currently the tx fee is hardcoded to 0.01 MOB.
    • Nodes can only be run by parties trusted by their foundation.
    • Controversial statements via Twitter.
    • The MobileCoin foundation created all the coins and will be selling them directly.

It is privacy respecting but there are some problems, as mentioned now.

Isn’t this the Monero knockoff that was mentioned a while back? If so, I would stay away. If not, I would still stay away, because I can’t find the source code anywhere. We’re supposed to, what, just blindly trust these people?

Are you saying this because it is a Monero fork or because it is a Monero fork? As in, don’t you trust it because it’s Monero or because it is a fork?

      Source is at: https://github.com/mobilecoinfoundation

Because it’s a Monero fork. And from Moxie Marlinspike, no less. I just don’t trust that guy. Thanks for the link, btw. I still can’t find it anywhere on their page, though. Or am I just missing something obvious?

Yeah it seems the link is nowhere to be found on their page… Lol

Why are you suspicious of Monero forks? I dislike the premise and background of Mobile Coin too (and its weird tie to Signal) but a Monero fork doesn’t seem inherently bad.

I’m not suspicious of Monero forks in general and of course just by being a fork doesn’t make it inherently bad, but I am suspicious of this fork in particular. I would say I’m wary of the rest, though. Monero has been around for a while and has also been audited, unlike its forks. Maybe they’re better than Monero, maybe they’re worse. I simply have no way of knowing.
