Is it possible, or planned to have posts open in a new window by default?
Pretty sure that’s against accessibility guidelines.
I disagree because it is an external link.
It’s not an opinion. However it won’t hurt to put an option in settings to toggle the behavior

Doubt it’s planned but hit Ctrl or click with the mouse wheel in the meantime?
That is what I do, but often times forget to do so.
I use middle click instead of left click 99% of the time when browsing the internet. You get used to it after a while.
Same, when I need to buy mice I choose them partially by how good their MMB works :D

It is up to the browser what to do with it. It generally is a link with target=“_blank”.

@nutomic@lemmy.ml Could you mod me here so I can add an icon.
Actually I cant, must be a bug.
Ah yeah, its due to mod / admin hierarchy.
Came to this community to ask this, not having this as an option breaks my flow. And the thing is, it would be extremely trivial to implement.
I think it would be relatively easy to create a browser extension that modifies lemmy to do that (it could be part of something like a “lemmy enhancement suite” ).
Already on it ;)
Managed to achieve what OP is asking for, and adding a few more features in the 0.1 release. Should take a couple of days to publish.
Sounds very interesting
Please post it here when it’s ready to publish.
Will do.
Current features:
- Option to open external links in a new tab
- Option to open internal links in a new tab
- Option to hide your username (your username will appear as “Anonymous” to anyone looking at your screen.
- Option to expand all images in the page with 1 click for easier browsing on the desktop.
Are there any simple features you would like to see in the first release?
Some simple RES features would be nice:
-
tagging a user, e.g. i should be able to tag you as LES developer (LES being lemmy enhancement suite)
-
showing the sums of upvotes and downvotes you gave to a certain user, e.g. the number “3” will appear next to the user name, clicking on it will showed you upvoted it 4 times and downvoted him 1 time.
You could see how the UX for these work by installing RES upvoting someone and licking on the number (should be +1).
