Most of the Apps that appear in the “safe” category aren’t the ones that first come to mind when thinking about privacy respecting services^^ I mean MS, Google, Netflix, Discord…

Yeah, take that with a grain of salt, definitely, but I’m just relaying what the article says.

I think another factor needs to be counted here, ecosystem they are attached to. That would rule out GAFTMAN immediately, leaving stuff like Discord or Shein.

I can’t see WhatsApp and Telegram in there. Were they not contemplated or are they actually better that these (doubt)?

WhatsApp existed in an earlier version of this table, or a similar one some other group made. It was like bottom 3 or 5 IIRC.

getting really tired of these linear models and scales. people are ending up so worried about which is /more/ invasive or /worse/ for privacy and it just makes a lot of noise that doesn’t really help anyone and doesn’t give a good picture of whats happening.

the modern business model of these corporations is just to funnel data to threat actors. that’s all they do, from any major social media platform, to any provided service, they’re just malware now funneling data to threat actors. there’s no way to guarantee where that information goes or what its used for.

its not really worth pointing out which is the biggest funnel for data to threat actors, its just understanding that they are funnels for data going to threat actors

Surprised that Wechat isn’t there but TikTok is. Does this mean that Wechat is actually privacy respecting?
