I remember reading a post about someone setting up Jellyfin and some other software and essentially just waiting around a few days after shows come out and they end up being available in their media library. Like, some kind of pirating software that just grabs the right media. Is this a thing or am I misremembering?

Sounds like they are using the “*Arr” software.

The WikiArr had a good break down of how it works

    https://wiki.servarr.com/

They are designed to automatically grab, sort, organize, and monitor your Music, Movie, E-Book, or TV Show collections for Lidarr, Radarr, Readarr, Sonarr, and Whisparr; and to manage your indexers and keep them in sync with the aforementioned apps for Prowlarr.

As Ksynwa mentioned, Jackett is the one you are looking for, also it works really great with Sonarr and Radarr, they organize the files in a way so that the name are not gibberish.

This sounds like Sonarr. I haven’t used it but I’ve seen people talk about it. It watches RSS feeds for releases and tries to find the best torrent.
