Tone is sooooo hard in Chinese. At lead that’s what I’ve heard. I learnt Japanese for a year at uni and omfg the sentence structure is alien to me compared to English. I think i got a good grasp of said structure and grammar but I just don’t know enough words 💀
Japanese and Korean both have straightforward rules, no tones, but highly contextual. I chose to learn Korean because Hangul is a very clean written language. Japanese writing is… if I’m gonna learn Kanji I might as well just learn Chinese since that would be more useful for my career.
As someone who has Reading Problems™ I find Chinese characters less scary than new alphabets. There’s no way to confuse letters with each other if they don’t even exist in the first place 😎
I can’t explain it, but you don’t “spell” characters and instead you read them on sight. To me, it’s hard to learn read on sight with the latin alphabet because words can look so similar. Idk, my brain is a little wonky.
Maybe? Having a set number of syllable blocks that have a set pronunciation would be easier to read than English. But the problem about building them myself (spelling) would be about the same.
Yeah there’s no tone or enunciation you need to master relatively except learing how to pronounce L and R at the same time for ra/la ri/li ru/lu re/le ro/lo.
I’ve heard from a uni mate that Chinese grammar is more straight forward and similar to English compared to Japanese.
My “sensei” at uni loved me for having really good pronunciation and it was from watching fucking hours of Japanese as a teen and learning how Japanese people actually speak vs anime nonsense.
Chinese writing is probably a bit easier as well (aside from the apparent lack of punctuation) since it was simplified. Kanji is basically the only reason why I gave up on learning Japanese a few years back
how Japanese people actually speak
after I learned some of the basics, I started noticing that the voice acting in anime is just really bad (usuallly extremely exaggerated) a lot of the time
Yeah anime voice acting is a form of short form Japanese that isn’t even spoken between close friends. Like you’ve got polite Japanese and intimate Japanese e.g. calling someone second-name-chan vs just kaito e.g. but from what I understand that closeness and intimacy is reserved for literally best friends and anime just uses a weird hybrid of both to create a more western patter in the dialogue.
Learning Kanji would open the opportunity to read Japanese literature. I believe reading is a very good motivator to learn a new language. Just because we can’t get money from it doesn’t mean it’s a waste of time.
See pun is only a letter away from fun. So you can naturally replace f in funny with punny. So I’m saying your naturally funny but using punny since you make puns.

Speaking (not reading) Japanese seems like child’s play compared to Chinese. Pronunciation is extremely easy

I really wish there was a Hangul equivalent for Chinese

Really? I’d assume it would be much more difficult to distinguish the thousands of different characters

I wonder if Hangul would be easier to learn, in that case

Yeah that’s fair, I do like the language and wanted to be a translator at one point hence why I learnt it. Now I just like the language.
it sounds very nice to me for some reason
Arggggg the pun meister is back 🤣
I’m so good I made a pun without realizing it
Just naturally punny are we?
I am such a pun expert that I cannot even find the pun
Ah okay don’t worry I’ll explain.
