Chinese writing is probably a bit easier as well (aside from the apparent lack of punctuation) since it was simplified. Kanji is basically the only reason why I gave up on learning Japanese a few years back

Yeah anime voice acting is a form of short form Japanese that isn’t even spoken between close friends. Like you’ve got polite Japanese and intimate Japanese e.g. calling someone second-name-chan vs just kaito e.g. but from what I understand that closeness and intimacy is reserved for literally best friends and anime just uses a weird hybrid of both to create a more western patter in the dialogue.
