Microsoft touting WSL is an attempt to steal market share from actual Linux. It’s designed to make people think “if Windows does everything Linux can, why do I even need Linux?”, thereby feeding Microsoft licensing money, market control, and the user’s data. It’s not a move with computer users’ nor the free software ecosystem’s best interests in mind.
can we just all get together and collectively cancel microsoft? pretty fucking tired of their bullshit already 😤

I saw the opposite, I saw developers trying WSL and then migrating with confidence to GNU/Linux distros.
You’re absolutely right. However, being forced to work with windows at work, I’m glad I have a lightweight virtualization solution that allows me to avoid a full VM.
The only thing keeping me from linux is having good driver support for my laptop’s hardware. Not Microsoft.
Hopefully that will change with more and more companies shipping laptops with Linux. Dell and Lenovo seem to be tier-1 companies that are leading the charge, there’s also Purism and System76.

The company I work with at the moment are tied to ASP.NET so there little to no hope of migrating back to a Linux distro. There’s talk of a .NET core upgrade but talk is cheap.
Have they considered Mono?
