Snow is a big reason i haven’t bought one. (Obv reason number one is lack of money)

I’ve heard rumors that they’re not the best in snow, but can’t confirm.

I like the idea that they are more fuel efficient than cars, but they are a dangerous form of transport especially when sharing roads with cars (but I think they would probably still be dangerous even without cars).

they are less dangerous, in the sense that you have more control over how much risk you want to take.

if you ride safely and learn all the advanced skills you’ll never have a problem. but if you cycle safely and competently you still get into a lot of dangerous situations.

Yes, they go faster so there is more risk of serious injury/death.

Also a benefit of cycling in comparison is that you get excersise

I’d say that’s a wrong comparison. Higher speeds can be more dangerous, and at any given speed, cycling is the more dangerous.

Why do you think cycling is more dangerous at a given speed? Because people wear protective clothing in motorcycles?

Fatter tyres, better acceleration, better brakes, heavier more stable vehicle, indicators lights and a horn. Overall you have better control and maneuverability, and better visibility and communication.

The exception is snow, where narrow tyres are better.

But anyway just try riding each at 30mph and it’ll be obvious.

        • they go faster so there is more risk of serious injury/death.

Isn’t this the same thing as saying running is more dangerous than walking because it’s faster?

in general you can’t ride in snow. if there are techniques for safely riding in snow, I’d like to see them.

Only thing is studded tires and being extra cautious if you’re really plowing through snow. But where I am snow gets plowed quickly, except for some back roads.

The real threat is black ice since you’re probably fucked if you hit it. The salt usually prevents it though.

I got one instead of an EV, although I did want an electric motorcycle but it’s 2x for a subpar product.

Even my new mid/low end adventure bike is only $6200. You can find used street bikes sub-$2000. The cheaper, lower-powered ones usually have better mileage too. Mine has 68mpg running 91 octane (US).

If there’s snow on the street (enough to matter) I’m using my ancient car, but otherwise the proper gear and prep can handle my state weather fine (avg 30-85°F depending on time of year).
