I don’t know if any of you remember this, but about a month ago I made a post that basically said: Russia is capitalist so we shouldn’t support it. I also made a couple other claims that were not entirely fact nor theory supported, nor did I even necessarily believe them. Anyway, I just wanted to state that I have developed a more nuanced view thanks to lemmygrad, and I wanted to say thanks to this community in particular for opening my eyes.

People who have been expressing these sentiments on reddit, don’t have a basic grasp of anti imperialism nor are thinking dialectically. Read anarchism or Socialism by stalin, there’s a part where he explains dialmat very well and uses the example of the republic being good and bad in different contexts and extrapolate that passage to what’s going on with Russia. Also read on contradiction by mao.

No probs! I’m proud of our posters doing good work educating on this front. When the US switches its focus yet again and pivots to say Iran, we will have to do the similar work of deconstructing “both sides” arguments, when it comes to the imperial hegemon and the countries it targets.

Learning is extremely important, and I don’t think we should discourage our comrades through insults and ridicule when they are misguided, education is most important.

I was the same at the start of this conflict, I was definitely in the “both sides are bad” camp for the first couple weeks but as time has gone on, I’ve learned a lot. This whole war has been a big learning experience for me with regards to anti-imperialism and I’m very grateful to those comrades both here and in other spaces for educating me.

It’s abstract universalism. The material reality is the Chinese-led sphere of influence is dependent on Russia’s survival against the American Empire.

So analyzing this conflict through the lense of what country meets a universal ideological standard is abstract, the conflict is a real phenomenon

And the key is that even though Russia is “capitalist”, it is an enemy of the capitalist center of the world, the White Hegemonic Empire.

Russia’s success in the current reality is key to the success of socialism, regardless of Russia’s ideological desires.
