I don’t know if any of you remember this, but about a month ago I made a post that basically said: Russia is capitalist so we shouldn’t support it. I also made a couple other claims that were not entirely fact nor theory supported, nor did I even necessarily believe them. Anyway, I just wanted to state that I have developed a more nuanced view thanks to lemmygrad, and I wanted to say thanks to this community in particular for opening my eyes.
Somehow this sentence scares me
desperate times, desperate measures and all that. there was once a time where there was enough socialist nations to pick and choose, but now only a few remain. They’re the best we got.
Modern Russia is hardly socialist
thats what I’m saying. there is little socialist countries, so we have to support non-socialist allies for the meantime.
Oh, misunderstood you, apologies
No problem!
We still have vietnam and cuba, and to a certain extent the CPC
not as much as we had just 30-40 years ago
we had the soviet union then. but russia is no longer the soviet union
Like Catradora said, we can’t be too picky about our allies atm. Western imperialism is too powerful, and China is also partly nationalistic, partly unwilling to engage on the international stage as much as Russia is.
I’m hoping with the BRI and Xi pushing the socialism button, China will become more internationalist in the future.
